Impressed by gas mileage!
On a recent 54 mile road trip I was able to achieve an astounding 31.3mpg driving my 2016 EX-L FWD with 217k miles on it. This car never fails to impress me.
I just completed a major maintenance milestone on the car as well which I attribute as responsible for the improvement in gas mileage. My previous best was barely 30mpg.
Transmission fluid was changed along with the external transmission filter, valve adjustment (lash was an average of 5 thousandths out of range) with new valve cover gaskets, timing belt and water pump. While I was in there, I replaced all the gaskets touching the oil pump. When I pulled the pan, I was pleased to see that it was incredibly clean. The same was said for the heads. I've been religious about never crossing 4k miles between oil changes and always used Mobile 1. For the past two years, I've switched to Valvoline Restore and Protect 5W-20 and have liked the results. I attached the picture of the rear bank cylinder head which tends to run slightly hotter and as a result is usually slightly more golden in color. I was shocked to see hardly any discoloration on the aluminum. You just about can't tell it's got 217k miles on it!
Well done to Honda for an incrediblely rell designed car. I have had a single problem in 217k miles.
