Lamy Safar 2016 SE

Well I'm really happy I found this. I feel some people my feel it sacrilege to open something so rare, but I don't buy pens just to look at them or save them for values sake. I love my pens. Especially the Lamy Matte editions, so this joins the Terra, Savannah, Petrol, Pink Cliff, Umbra, Black, and Scarlet.

Only pen I've bought this year 😊

Restoration

So, its been a year since I got this, i originally just used Hammerite Kurust to deal with the rust and, after damaging the spring taking it out, I used 12 gauge copper wire to make a new one, and used it on camping trips, but over-winter storage brought the rust back. Therefore a spent a couple of days dealing with the rust again, and repainting the tank with Simoniz vht paint, and the burner assemblies with the same. Then Simoniz acrylic fuel resistant lacquer. And im really pleased how it turned out...

HOWEVER, the problem now lies with the burner assemblies, although the paint goes upto 900°C, thats heat, and not fire. So the next step it to take them all back to bare metal and just keep them clean. And maybe figure out some kind of flame proof rust treatment.

The rust particles from the tank i managed to remove with blu-tac on a stick haha. But the rust "dust" came out with a couple of rinse and pour with the Aspen 4 fuel i got. Which then settles in the jug so I could filter it back into a different bottle.

Alkylate fuels

So, being in the UK, Coleman fuel is pretty expensive, being between £7.50 (6.99 postage 😬) online to £15.49 (amazon) a litre, yeah, you read that right, one litre. And other white gas like Primus Powerfuel and MSR Superfuel are rare too now. So ive been going down a bit of a rabbit hole, normal petrol (gasolene) works fine, waaaaaay cheaper, but it's sootty, just like paraffin (kerosene), and not the best for health etc, both personal and stove. So i found out about Alkylate fuels, like Aspen, or Gulf T4 profuel, husqvana fuel, and probably others, which is an ethanol free purified petrol. Who's used it? And what do you think? Its between 20-35 for 5L. And usually used in lawnmowers and chainsaws. I'd love to know if its worth it.
