Ram Madhav, RSS National Executive member and president of the India Foundation, was confronted by journalists outside the Hudson Institute in Washington D.C. on April 23, 2026, following a panel discussion on India-US relations. Video footage from the event shows Madhav walking away without responding to questions from journalists. The questions raised by journalists pertained to violence against religious minorities in India. This comes days after the US Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF) recommended sanctions against the RSS in its March 2026 annual report, citing concerns over religious freedom violations in India. USCIRF cited the RSS's "responsibility and tolerance of severe violations of religious freedom." Separately, NPR conducted a rare interview with RSS General Secretary Dattatreya Hosabale also in Washington the same week, asking about the organisation's stance on minorities. The RSS has historically maintained that it is a cultural organisation and not anti-minority, a position it repeated in the interview.
