My roommate lost his job and stopped paying rent two months ago. I found out because the landlord got in contact with me with the rent check he sent was cancelled. I tried to call my roommate but no response I sent an email and got no response, after 30 days of no response I asked the landlord to use the security deposit to cover his portion of the rent for the months he missed and he also allowed me to break the lease no fee (the least was until August) I notified my landlord that my move out date would be May 1st. I notified my roommate that the move out date would officially be May 1st through email but received no response. I fully moved out today but my all of my roommates property is still in the house. All of the house bills were in my name so of course I’m out of that money but I’ve also cut the electric off to move to my new place and he still has things in the fridge. When is the property considered abandoned? Will I be in trouble legally if I move it out on May 1st?
