Hey guys,

I’m doing mostly restoration work (a lot of 2FT cuts and patches), but sometimes I get basements with around 15–20 inside corners to finish.

Right now, I already have all my hand tools (mud pan + 3, 6, 8, 10, 12 knives), and I’m looking to upgrade for speed.

I’m debating between:

Option 1: Getting the full Can-Am Essential Kit (tube, roller, finishers, handles, etc.)

Option 2: Just buying:

  • corner roller
  • 2.5" corner finisher
  • a good handle

From what I understand:

  • The Essential Kit seems great for continuous work / new construction
  • But my jobs are usually smaller patches, not long continuous runs
  • I might not use the tube/inside applicator that much

At the same time, when I hit a basement with ~20 inside corners, I wonder if the full system would actually save time.

At the same time, when I hit a basement with ~20 inside corners, I wonder if the full system would actually save the same time, when I hit a basement with ~20 inside corners, I wonder if the full system would actually save time.

At the same time, when I hit a basement with ~20 inside corners, I wonder if the full system would actually save time.

So I’m kind of in between — not purely small patches, but not full production either.

My questions:

  1. Is the Can-Am Essential Kit overkill for this kind of work?
  2. Would just roller + 2.5 finisher already give most of the speed benefit?
  3. At what point (volume of work) does the tube/inside applicator actually become worth it?
  4. Any recommended setup for someone in restoration doing mixed small + medium jobs?

Appreciate any advice from people running these tools daily 🙏
