I’ve been doing photography for a little over a year now. I have a Canon Rebel T7. I currently have two lenses: 18-55mm f/3.5 and 75-300mm f/4-5.6

I will be shooting a 6pm baseball game in two weeks. I shot a daytime baseball game a few weeks ago at the same location and definitely needed the telephoto lens to zoom in on all the players from the vantage points that were available.

Since this next game will be in the evening, I’m going to need a lens with a lower aperture. I’ve been looking for 70-200mm f/2.8 as that is what a mentor recommended. The rental place near me only offers rentals for 70-200mm f/2.8 as an RF lens.

I went on B&H to look at used lenses instead of renting and feel even more lost. I don’t understand why some lenses are so much more expensive than others (see attached images). I don’t understand what all the abbreviations mean and am scared to unknowingly end up buying an old piece of junk to save a few bucks.

I’m starting to feel like two weeks is not near enough time to learn all that I need to know about lenses before buying one so I’m really looking for some guidance on this.

I plan to do more sport shoots, so I would use this lens again. I’d really prefer not to spend more than $1,000 so please let me know if that is too small of a budget.
