I recently started playing pickleball a month ago.
I did the intermediate assessment to see which open play I can play at and during the assessment I tried and I went on an 8 game win streak splitting partners each time. After this they placed me in the 3.5-3.9 open play.
I won most of the points in the assessment when I served because they couldn’t hit my deep serves with topspin back a lot of times.
I notice I’m making a lot of mistakes in 3.5+ open play. I’m not doing bad. If they pop it up I can put it away. And can drill from the baseline. most games are close but I feel like they aren’t hitting to me as much and I’m having a lot more errors at that level of play. I’m wining about 1 of 3 or 1 of 4 games. Most games are close with a score of 6-9 to 11.
Also if they hit a ball at my I can just do a tennis forehand and usually jam them up by aiming right at them. This does seem to upset people when I do this. Another thing I notice is people will sometimes do a deep lob style serve. I have no issue returning fast serves with speed. Not sure why I keep seeing people do this to me and not my partners.
Should I ask to go down in open play to intermediate or stick with it.
I used to play competitive tennis and ping pong which is why I picked up on it quickly.
