I’m looking for some honest advice because I keep getting completely mixed opinions. I have a 2014 Silverado 1500 with about 153,000 miles on it. The transmission just went out and I had to get it towed to a family friends shop. On top of that, the shop found two cracks in the frame probably because the rust and driving on bad dirt roads. My mechanic and others say it’s still worth fixing. They will replace the transmission and weld the frame for about $6,100 total with a warranty on the transmission for 3 years.

Some people are telling me that I should fix it, while others are saying it’s not worth putting that kind of money into a truck with frame damage and I should sell it for whatever I can get and buy a used car. The problem is I drive about 50 miles a day for work, and I realistically can’t afford to replace it with another truck right now or at least shouldn’t at today’s prices. It’s otherwise in decent condition except for the rocker panels and wheel wells just now showing rust.

Would you fix it and try to get more life out of it, or cut your losses and look for something else? Any help would be appreciated and thanks in advance for any!
