I've seen some people on here, and elsewhere, claim that envy was the plan until fan reception caused Liam to switch all of his plans to Nuzi. However, this couldn't be farther from the truth.
In the screenshot I attached, you can see a Q&A answer Liam gave nearly a week after the pilot dropped. He named the Uzi and N duo (NOT N & V) as his favorite in response to a question asking him who his favorite character was.
"But he never said it was romantic!"
Because that would be a spoiler. In another q&a, during the early premiere for episode 2, he was once again asked who his favorite character was, and his answer was still N & Uzi (again, not N & V). He was also asked what his favorite ship was, and in response, he said "You'll have to wait and see".
"But he said N and V were originally the protagonists!"
Envy shippers love to take that out-of-context, and make it seem like that was the plan during the pilot. In actuality, that was the plan....for an extremely early version of the show, before Uzi was even conceptualized. What happened was: after creating Uzi, Liam liked her and N's dynamic more, so he made them the mains. A decision that he made all by himself, without any of the supposed coercion from nuzi fans.
In summary, nuzi was already decided upon, by the time of the pilot, and envy was only ever the plan back in an extremely early version of the show.
