What lenses should I add next?
I have a trip to Maine coming up in July and by happenstance will be there during a new moon with (hopefully) a great Milky Way opportunity.
My camera is a A7Cii with a Tamron 28-75 f2.8 and I'd like to add a wide angle for the trip and then something with more reach for wildlife. Currently most of my day to day photography is of my kids and their sports, so that colors my choices as well.
For the astro I've more or less settled on the Sony 16mm f1.8 as I just don't think I can justify the 14mm GM which I'm afraid would just sit on a shelf after this trip unless astro really sparks something in me.
Where I'm struggling is the telephoto lens. I'm still growing as a photographer so I can't say the exact focal length I'd gravitate towards. My previous camera was a Nikon d7000 and I had a 70-300mm which I typically used at 70mm or 150mm but I think that had more to do with the difficulties of the light performance at the full 300mm. I've considered the Sony 70-200 GMii (and possibly add the 2.0 tele), Sony 100-400mm, and the Tamron 70-180mm.
- The Tamron would be nice for 67mm filters across all 3 lenses, but I lose the ability to use a teleconverter, so if I want more reach I'm back at looking for another lens.
- The GMii + tele seems like a great option, but by far and away the most expensive. I'm open to the cost but like anyone would prefer to keep my money in my pocket (wrong hobby I know).
- Then the 100-400mm seems like a good "all rounder" but at the price point it's at the 70-200 just seems better reviewed and more flexible.
Curious as to others thoughts and experiences.
