I have to explain a couple of things for this to make sense. The first thing is that I snore very loudly, so I use a CPAP machine when I sleep. The other thing is that our bathroom door, which is in between our bedroom and the living room, makes a swishing sound when you open it because there's a small rug under the door.
Our power went out a few nights ago and so I couldn't use my CPAP machine. Rather than keep my wife up all night with my snoring, I went out to the living room and slept in my recliner. That's when I had my "dream".
The dream was that I was sleeping in my recliner in the living room while my wife was sleeping in the bedroom. I realized I was fully lucid. In hindsight, I should have known I was APing, but for whatever reason, my brain just didn't put 2 and 2 together.
That's when I became aware of a strange sound. It sounded like someone was opening and closing our bathroom door, over and over. The only person it could have been would be my wife. So I called out to her to ask what she was doing, but I quickly realized that I was in sleep paralysis and couldn't move or make a sound.
Sadly, I panicked and started rocking my body back and forth to wake myself up. And in the very last moments before I woke myself up, I realized that the sound I was hearing was not the bathroom door, but the sound of myself snoring. It sounded so far away!
I then realized what was happening, but it was too late. I was awake. But now I know what to expect!
