Hi everyone,

I’m a new grad RN in San Jose and will be starting my first nursing job soon at a skilled nursing facility. My long-term goal is to eventually transition into hospital nursing and higher acuity specialties.

I wanted to ask other California nurses:

• Are professional organizations like the California Nurses Association or American Nurses Association worth joining early in a career?
• What helped you transition from SNF or other entry positions into hospital roles?
• Any California-specific advice you wish you knew as a new nurse?

I’d really appreciate hearing from nurses who started their careers in this state.
