I wanted to get some opinions on a PR strategy that I’m considering and see if anyone here has gone through something similar.
Currently, I have 2+ years of Canadian work experience, but I do not have any foreign work experience, which is impacting my CRS score. My work permit is valid until the end of next year.
I was considering going back to India, working there for 1 continuous year in a skilled role, and then using that experience as valid foreign work experience for Express Entry/PR purposes later on.
From my understanding, as long as the experience is skilled, continuous, full-time, and properly documented, it should count even if it is gained after Canadian experience. However, my lawyer mentioned that they personally haven’t seen many people take this route before, so I wanted to understand how practical or effective this approach actually is.
Has anyone here:
- gained foreign work experience after already working in Canada,
- successfully used it for CRS points,
- or known someone who has done this?
Would really appreciate any insights, experiences, or things I should watch out for before making such a big decision.
