I wonder if someone can help me with UK (England) residency requirements for the purposes of applying for a mortgage.
I'm a UK citizen currently working in the Netherlands. My wife and I are hoping to buy property in England and will need a mortgage to do so. My wife lives and works in England. We will definitely both need to be on any mortgage application, as neither of us makes enough alone to secure a loan. Will my working abroad mean that we have to apply as expats?
Not sure if it makes a difference, but: I lived continuously in England from 2012 to September 2025. I have been back in England regularly since September, but there is no doubt that most of my time is spent in the Netherlands. As of right now, I have not applied for continued NHS coverage or determined my tax liability, though I believe that I meet a number of the conditions for tax liability given my ties to England. My pay goes to a UK account. I have not applied for continued NHS coverage, though I believe that I would be eligible.
