My 3 yr old was just diagnosed Level 2. What now? I’m so overwhelmed.
Hi there. After waiting a year on the evaluation list at 6 different facilities, we finally got the diagnosis for our 3 year old - level 2.
As we’ve waited, we got our daughter into special ed pre-K with an IEP. She’s in speech therapy, food/oral sensory therapy, OT therapy.
Now onto the next stage of “waiting” on the paperwork and getting her into ABA, I’m at a loss of what to do.
This is all new to me. I am so overwhelmed. Yes, I am trying to educate myself on the diagnosis and the next steps, like getting a service coordinator. I made the mistake of listening to a podcast where the host says “you’re the CEO of your child” and their progress and adaptability is all on you. They talked about going to autism conferences across the country, moving to more suitable home and environment, removing gluten and other toxins from their kids day-to-day life. Hearing all of that made me want to crawl into a little ball and give up because I don’t know how we will pay the bills next month, let alone help my daughter achieve level 1 abilities and maybe one day join “General classes” at school.
Basically, what I am asking, can someone help guide me and give me some basic advice? I’m looking into the 100 day kit for autism, but that’s still overwhelming to me. Any simplified podcasts or websites that will help answer “My kid was just diagnosed, what do I do now?”?
Thank you in advanced.
Sincerely, a tired, scared mom
