Best finish for this sycamore piece?

Best finish for this sycamore piece?

I'm 90% sure this is sycamore. I don't want to stain it, just put something clear over it to bring out the grain and keep the natural look. I need help in knowing what to use. Oil, lacquer, varnish, stain...? And in what order? I've only done stain/poly on prior pieces so this one is new, any advice will be MUCH appreciated. TIA!

What type of wood is this?

This is on a mid-century sideboard, fairly low quality piece. It's fairly soft. Any help will be appreciated, thanks!

After five years of decent service from my Craftsman 6-tool package, I was ready to upgrade into the big time: DeWalt! So I ordered and received the DeWalt XR 20V random orbital sander with 5 aH battery/charger from Home Depot for $160+tax. Holy crap does this thing suck! This sander spews so much dust during use that it's almost comical. Not just from around the sanding head but from the dust collector itself (I tried to upload a video of this dust storm but I can't on this sub).

I went online to return it and found that "return period has expired" - after 4 days! I went back to the online listing for this tool and yep, way at the bottom, it says "Free & Easy Returns In Store or Online. Return this item within 2 days of purchase".

That's insane, so I called HD customer service, they (politely) reiterated the same policy, I said no, that's crazy, who can I talk to. The very nice CS lady went off to discuss with her supervisor and came back a few minutes later and said that a) I will get a full refund immediately, b) I can keep the sander, no return necessary; and c) She and her supervisor have never seen 2 day return limits and have escalated the issue to management.

Bottom Line: my "upgrade" to DeWalt was short-lived. I'm now shopping Bosch, Makita, and other higher-end sanders. And Home Depot came through, in the end. They certainly should never allow that vendor on their site, but at least they did the right thing. I'll continue to shop there, just not for DeWalt.

We just had our driveway poured and stamped. Most of it looks as we expected, but there are several spots where it appears that the release was insufficient and we have rough little spikes. Is this okay or should I ask to have this sanded? Is there a better solution? TIA!
