Dear Anchorage…

As I’m sitting in the airport waiting to return home (to RDU) I just want to say thank you to the city as a whole and anyone that I came across on my short visit.

Back story is I touched down Wednesday night around 9pm to drop off my son for a summer gig close to Denali. This is his first time away from home, so it’s a little nerve racking for both of us. I literally brought dude from one side of the US to the other and saying “bye for now”…AND, y’all have posted warnings of moose wandering about…in downtown Durham all we have to worry about is the random jackass with an aggressive dog off leash…lol

Anyway, upon landing we were both in awe…the still light sky and the landscape…whoa! Don’t get me wrong, we have beautiful mountains in NC, but neither one of us were prepared for what we saw here. It’s pretty majestic.

The next morning we drove around a little, took a quick trip to the zoo, and then had lunch before I put him on the bus headed to Denali. Everywhere we went, everyone that we spoke to reminded us of home - super welcoming, friendly, and inclusive. Reminded us of home.

We got two good meals in; 49th State and Tent City. We’re both food driven btw. I had chowder at both and was very pleased. I want more!

I only had a few hours between dropping him off before a quick disco nap and then back to the airport for a 2am flight home, but I really want to come back and spend some time here. Your city is pretty damn cool.

Oh, boarding time! To sum this up, thank you, city and people of Anchorage ✌🏾
