I have tried to repaste my laptop (HP Zbook 15 G1). After I switched it on, it actually became hotter. On 2 browser tabs with YouTube + Godot It reached close to 90C and the case became noticably warm.

I used Arctic MX-4 and applied a pea-sized blob. It seems that I have a bare die.

I've seen videos where people apply thermal paste on laptops by spreading. Therefore I have a question:

Does spreading paste improves the heat transfer for bare die CPUs? Could improvement be as dramatic to dropb 10-20 C?
