Why are so many websites terrible on phones even if they’re something most people are looking at in a phone?

So many websites when you look at them on a phone open a video or advert that covers most of what you’re trying to read or you’re scrolling down then it suddenly jumps to the top. I end up giving up and closing it. For example, I just followed a link to something on Bored Panda but quickly gave up when I couldn’t scroll through the article. Why can’t they be built better, or is this a feature, not a bug?

I found a box of mostly UK pre-decimal coins while clearing my father in law’s loft and he didn’t want them any more. Mostly just 1/2d, 1d, 3d and some ten shilling notes but a few others too. I think this is the most interesting looking one. What is it and is it worth anything?
