Worried I missed job offer - Missed phone call
So, I interviewed for a position I was extremely interested in and thought it went great. They told me they would get back to me by the end of the following week. Well, that week has come and gone, and Friday afternoon I saw that I had missed a call/voicemail on Monday from the hiring manager. I was really digging through my emails on Friday wondering why I hadn't heard back, which is when I finally noticed the missed call. I won't go into all the details, but it really was just an unfortunate series of events (one of which is being violently sick and out of it for 2-3 days) for why I did not see that missed call till Friday...
Obviously I immediately tried calling back on Friday when I figured it out, but it was already around 5pm and the end of the day, so I left a voicemail. I sent an email to the HR person I was in contact with from the company explaining I had missed a call from the hiring manager and was hoping to hear an update on the position.
This was a mid level role, and I am just so confused on why they didn't try to call again or at the very least send an email. The voicemail the hiring manager left me basically just said they are available the next day for a call back to talk about the position. It is not a giant company, and is a local government position, and everyone seemed very friendly and easy going.
I am just swimming in my thoughts over not getting back to the hiring manager all week and really beating myself up. I just feel like they would've moved on and offered the job to someone else by now, given it took me 4 full days to get back to them (if not a week, considering it will be this coming Monday the Hiring manager sees my voicemail). I realize it's on me and it was a huge mistake, but a singular phone call/voicemail is odd. Is there some reason they would only call me once, and not try to email me or call again? It seems odd to call just to say they aren't offering me the position, but also seems odd to try contacting me one time and then giving up.
