TLDR: Put up with verbal sexual harassment from senior manager for months, once I began to draw a line, I was let go for being argumentative.
I’ve been working as a night porter for a hotel for about 5 months up until yesterday when I was let go.
From the moment I started working, the head chef has repeatedly been asking me how big his dick is, asking me who has the biggest dick in our city, asking me if I prefer pussy or dick etc. These comments are frequent and in front of other members of staff - he is known to make these comments regularly, and as he is a senior member of staff, it seems to go completely unchecked. It made me feel so uncomfortable from day one, but I chose to repeatedly just ignore it and get on with my work. This is in addition to him repeatedly shouting at me and being incredibly rude and often boasting infront of myself and other staff about all the drugs he’s proud to have taken. For context, I am also living in the hotel so I thought it would be best.
Yesterday morning I had enough. When he came into reception at the beginning of the day, he stood by the desk in shorts and a t-shirt (non uniform) and I decided to tell him that he cannot be at reception when not in uniform as this is against company policy (and is something that he has told me not to do as well). He told me that it doesn’t affect him as he’s the chef, and told me that I would ‘see soon enough’ in a vaguely threatening manner.
That same day, I get called into the managers office, where I was let go with immediate effect for being argumentative with the chef and was told I spoke in a disrespectful manner. In that moment I decided to lay it all on the table and told management of all the sexual harassment and constant rudeness from chef, as well as his open boasting of drug use, to which management responded with ‘well why are you telling us now, you should have told us before’ - effectively blaming the victim for someone else’s actions.
I have reported the chef to the police and am awaiting to hear back, and have also started a unfair dismissal tribunal case. Is there anything else I can do here?
Thanks
