Spayed Female Husky-mix. 56 pounds. Almost 3 years old. San Francisco.

Our husky Jasper chipped her lower left canine tooth pretty badly. We just noticed the chipped tooth but we don't know when it happened (Seems to be in the 1 to 4 week range based on camera roll forensics).

Our vet can do a bonded sealant but can't make a final determination whether that treatment is appropriate without a full exam and x-rays under anesthesia. It seems that if the pulp is too exposed or infected we have to do root canal or just extract the tooth completely.

Since Jasper shows zero signs of pain and no change in behavior, I reckon there is currently no damage or infection in the tooth. That said, the photos look a bit sketch.

Obviously we will be proceeding with a full exam & x-rays and following our vet's guidance! But I am curious about a couple things:

  1. Based on the pictures, do y'all think we've got a decent chance that a simple bonded sealant could actually be sufficient, or is it looking more serious?

  2. Any opinions on extraction vs root canal? Jasper really likes to play tug and removing a canine seems very invasive...
