location: upstatenewyork. i’m not entirely sure where to start in this process and not sure if i need legal advice or just need to live elsewhere. I have had this aggressive dog for a year and a few months now we got him when he was a puppy and when he was around seven months he oddly enough started growling at people when going near his toys/treats/food bowl (resource guarding). I was told we can train him out of that. I want to be clear that i do NOT own the dog in any way we live in the same home and i rarely ever see the dog because of the aggressive behavior he exhibits. He is a guardian dog and has been living in our home since he was 4 months old. We got him from an amish breeder 3 hours from where we are. For a couple months now i wanna say 6 months at least he has been terrorizing everyone in the household he randomly bites u if u go near his food bowl/treats/toys etc. i’m aware that apart of resource guarding we have sense taken his toys/ treats away when he guards. we let him go for a walk and someone in the house will move his toys and treats while he is outside and he comes home fine and happy. We only do that after aggression. He has sense let up abt but still has tense moments. one family member had to get stitched up twice because of the biting (there weren’t toys around or treats and wasnt near his food or anything). he randomly attacks if u stare at him for too long. he has bitten me 4 times now (i never needed stitches). He only bites my hands but i dont go near his treats or anything he resource guards, there’s no reason or rhyme to it. Should he have been on a farm? he’s bitten 4 family members and didnt bite or get mad at the other two family members because they dont spend any time with him. Any time ive been bitten i can’t use my hand because my nerves would be shot the next day and i can’t afford to miss work so had to report and get doctors note. i really dont want them to keep this dog. We all thought abt giving him up because of how bad and aggressive he gets. What should i do? i have very bad ptsd from this dog and freeze everytime i see him i am unable to do laundry/cook/clean when he is home. Owner is giving the dog a second chance even though the trainer said we are better off giving him up or if we keep the dog he would need a muzzle. Doesn’t want to pay for a trainer and hopes for the dog to change on his own(he won’t).
