What are people’s opinions on the new BST expected for 2027?
I’m curious how it’ll affect those whose desired HST scheme doesn’t require a GIM year. Seems annoying to have to do a third/reg year in GIM if it’s not needed.

I’m a first year Irish SHO. I finished intern year in 2025. I had to take this year off due to family issues/personal health and then decided to treat myself to travel after all that happened. I’ve only arrived home now, May 2026.
I’m just wondering how will this gap year affect my chance for the GIM BST. I’ve a job lined up for July, a diploma from RCPI, one poster presentation and one audit, 2 teaching opportunities, involved in many medical societies in college and international elective as student.
I plan to sit MRCP part one in August and trying to get involved in audit/research now. What are my chances for GIM BST? This year seemed very difficult and just wondering is there anything I could do to add to CV.
