Hello! I was recently diagnosed with GD. My fasting numbers were already elevated before I even had the 100g of glucose.
I’m trying to figure out what in my diet could be causing this. Here’s what I eat typically:
-Egg sausage with spinach and a little cheese; tomato; avocado; recently started adding olive oil for taste and extra fat
-Salad with pork or beef and a vinaigrette based dressing
-Tofu bowl with cucumber and quinoa
-Pork and sweet potato fry with broccoli and spinach.
Wasn’t really a fan of fruit, except I started adding in some this past week to help with constipation (like kiwi and berries).
I guess I’m just really confused about how my diet could cause GD? If you have more experience with this, I’d love to hear your thoughts. I never eat any processed foods and if anything may have a single slice of homemade banana bread with butter occasionally or another small treat (literally like once a week). But I otherwise don’t even crave sweets or carbs. I actually have a general aversion to regular breads (even sourdough, which I used to like pre-pregnanc), pizzas, and pastas during this pregnancy. I was pretty caught off-guard by the diagnosis.
That being said, I did go into this pregnancy being quite sick from over a year of severe insomnia and elevated autoimmune markers. I read somewhere that illness and poor sleep can elevate levels. I also had severe nausea and vomiting first trimester (but I had HG my first two pregnancies and never was diagnosed with GD). Nonetheless, I’m usually a very active person except when I feel sick (like during pregnancy). So as much as I try to be active, I often time physically can’t due to symptoms.
Just trying to wrap my mind around all of this, I guess.
