Woman in White Gown / Dress in the hallway.

These all happened probably over two decades ago now, when I was a kid (I believe I was 5-8). I sometimes think about this experience every now and again and get slightly unsettled, but here is the story. I will admit I never really look into paranormal things and never really had any strong feelings on the topic, which is why my own experience is quite interesting to me.

It would almost always happen when I was waking up early in the morning, not late enough to get up, but enough that the hallway would be lit up with some early morning light. For context, My bed was against the back wall of my room, and then there was the hallway on the opposite right side of it that I would face, and I would sleep with my door open...

This happened to me several times, I'm not sure over what time frame, but I do know it eventually stopped completely. I would see a very dressed up woman in a white dress, I was unable to make out a face or anything, but it was most definitely a person. It was almost like a wedding gown, they would start at the end of the hallway, and walk slowly down towards my room. Being a kid, I never tried confronting it, I was fully capable of moving and would often resort to just hiding under the covers of my bed. When I would look back after some time, it would be gone. Its movements were eerily silent (being on the second floor, someone walking around is very obvious). It's pretty clear this couldn't have been an intruder, since my father would most definitely have been awake by then, nothing was moved or stolen (as far as I knew), and it'd be quite a sick joke. It also could not have been my mother since 1. Why would she be in a wedding dress, 2. how would she seemingly disappear, 3. How were her footsteps almost silent, and 4. Why wouldn't she assure me it was her when I asked about it?

It happened enough that I eventually knew how to get the woman in the white dress to go away as I wished, I would just hide under the covers and it would disappear. However I couldn't stop the experience from happening in the first place.

Nothing like a piece of clothing could've been hanging there since when id look back there would be nothing there, and the house was constructed in the 70s with nothing I could find on it regarding past owners.

Any ideas what this was?
