Seniors please help - Dry fleet to gas as 4E
Hi everyone,
I recently cleared my Class 4 CoC and completed my TME training on bulk carrier. My current company has recently introduced a policy where officers will continue in the same fleet type as their TME vessel.
Even though I was a top rank holder at institute and had strongly requested a gas carrier during my TME period, and was also informed during discussions on call that I could be considered for gas carriers after clearing my CoC, the company policy was changed in between. The company has a sizeable gas fleet (20-30) , but currently they are saying that without an advanced Gas DC they cannot place me on gas carriers.
As of now, it seems that if I continue with the company, I will only be assigned dry fleet vessels. However, working on LNG/LPG carriers has always been my career goal.
To be honest, I feel quite disappointed and disheartened by the situation. Despite having strong academic performance and good records throughout my training (thinking I will be considered for gas fleet with good performance) , I was still denied an opportunity in the gas fleet. What makes it harder for me is seeing some cadets with much lower ranks or weaker performance records being assigned to gas carriers in same company, while my repeated requests were not considered.
I am willing to sail one more contract in the dry fleet if needed, and based on my performance, I hope to transition into the gas fleet later.
Could anyone please suggest:
•Good companies that support transition from dry fleet to LNG/LPG carriers for junior engineers
•Any advice or guidance for someone in my situation trying to move into the gas sector.
Thank you in advance 🙏🏻
