I've just had my first viewing on a 60s-build home that has been on the market for a year - family home sold off by adult children with parents no longer residing there (hopefully not passed in the home!). We were told they had an offer which dragged on and eventually the chain collapsed, and I'm sure they're keen to sell at this point.
It ticks a lot of boxes in terms of location and size, but even in the viewing it was abundantly clear no one had been living there in some time - and that the previous owners hadn't renovated in decades.
I'm quite concerned about eg some visible condensation and damp in the windows, and how a whole year of abandonment could have led to mould hidden under the wallpaper etc. The current asking price is at our upper threshold, and we don't want to be paying an additional £30k just to make it safe and habitable.
I'm sure a thorough survey would pick these things up, but I wondered if anyone had experience buying an abandoned property and whether anything came as a surprise that a survey wouldn't highlight?
