Hi everyone, it’s my first time posting here and I’m looking to get some career advice from people who have gone through a similar professional journey or know someone who did.
After graduating, I worked in the United States for 2 years specialising in equine practice (surgery internship and ambulatory internship) before coming back to the UK to start a PhD. My PhD is focused on tendinopathies in humans and horses, with a very strong immunology focus. I’ve got a strong interest in orthopedics in general (always enjoyed lameness work-ups) and have quite a bit of experience with musculoskeletal ultrasound.
I absolutely love the research/lab work. Some part of me misses clinical work too, and I am really unsure what to do next. Should I stay in academia and do a postdoc? Stay in research but go into industry (veterinary pharma, or biotech company, etc)? Or find a way to combine research endeavours with some clinical practice? Which might be tricky to do (finding jobs that would combine both seems way less existent in vet med compared to human medicine).
Or does anyone has any insights or ideas as to what would be a fulfilling career with the skills I’ve got?
Thanks a mil everyone!
