Realized our kids are completely unprotected and we're sitting on a lot of equity

We bought our home about six years ago and what we paid for it then and what it's worth now don't even compare. That finally hit us recently and taking stock of where we stand made us realize how much we'd left undone.

Neither of us has sorted a single thing, no will, no trust, no guardian named for the kids, we just never got there. We have kids and the house is our biggest asset by a long shot and we have no plan for what happens to the house or the kids if something happened to us. We've been so focused on building equity that the protection side of it never got dealt with and now I feel like we've been asleep at the wheel.

We just want the house to go to the right people and the kids to be taken care of but we've never once looked into how to make that happen, what does someone in our position really need?
