Room 101: Inside the Master Bedroom Makeover

https://preview.redd.it/i4qecgg2kz0h1.png?width=750&format=png&auto=webp&s=b2f966382e6c693eb14b35bfd459be7f6d2e60fc

Since we’ve been chatting about headboards lately, this felt like the perfect time to dive into bedroom design as a whole. When you really think about it, you spend a huge portion of your life in your bedroom. It’s where you sleep, recharge, relax, get ready for the day, and often unwind at night. Because of that, the space should feel functional, comfortable, and reflective of your lifestyle.

Whether you’re fully renovating, starting from scratch, or simply updating a few things, here are some important questions to ask yourself before designing a master bedroom:

• How will I actually use this space besides sleeping? (reading, relaxing, working, dressing, etc.)
• Who else will use the room? (partner, kids, pets)
• What needs to be stored here? (clothing, linens, personal items)
• What’s the realistic budget for this project?
• What are the non-negotiables for this space?
• What would be nice “bonus” features if the budget allows?
• Is storage or square footage a challenge?
• Does the room get a lot of natural light? If so, will you need blackout curtains or better window treatments for sleeping?
• What overall aesthetic or mood do you want the room to have?
• Will you still love these choices in 3, 5, or even 10 years?

Answering these questions honestly will help you create a bedroom that not only looks good, but also works for your everyday life. No matter the size or budget, always prioritize function first, then layer in style. Smart storage, practical furniture, and thoughtful design choices will make the biggest difference in the long run.

FURNITURE + DECOR TO CONSIDER:

If you’re designing a master bedroom that feels both functional and relaxing, the furniture and decor you choose really matter. Of course, the size of your room will determine what makes sense, but these are some staples worth considering when planning the space.

ON THE BED…

• A comfortable, supportive mattress
• Box spring or foundation (depending on your bed frame and mattress type)
• Quality sheets you actually enjoy sleeping in
• Duvet insert
• Duvet, quilt, or coverlet
• A mix of pillows (I always recommend both soft and firm options)
• Accent pillows for texture and layering
• A cozy throw blanket
• Bed skirt if needed
• Linen spray for that fresh, clean bedding feel

One thing I never regret investing in is a good mattress. I’m personally obsessed with our Tuft & Needle mattress, and quality sheets honestly make a bigger difference than most people realize. I also use linen spray almost daily — it’s such a simple touch, but it keeps the bedroom feeling fresh, clean, and relaxing all the time.

https://preview.redd.it/psqje2cplz0h1.png?width=750&format=png&auto=webp&s=59a80b7940a0602ee21ab67c7e67c25e7f8a24c2

AROUND THE BEDROOM…

Beyond the bed itself, there are a lot of furniture and decor pieces that can make a master bedroom feel more functional, layered, and relaxing. Not every room has space for all of these, but they’re great elements to consider while planning your layout.

• A bed frame with rails, headboard, and/or footboard
• A bench at the foot of the bed
• Two nightstands or bedside tables
• Wall sconces or bedside lamps for softer lighting
• Overhead lighting (flush mount, pendant, chandelier, ceiling fan, etc.)
• A cozy area rug to warm up the space
• Artwork or personal decor — bedrooms are honestly the perfect place for meaningful pieces like family photos or sentimental art
• Mirrors, decorative objects, and accessories
• Extra seating if space allows (accent chairs, a chaise, or small settee)
• Window treatments, preferably room-darkening or blackout for better sleep
• Closet organization systems to maximize storage
• Ottomans for seating or at the foot of the bed
• A dresser or additional storage furniture

Of course, in a dream world every bedroom would fit all of these beautifully, but realistically most spaces have limitations. The key is choosing the pieces that best support your lifestyle, storage needs, and the way you actually use the room. Prioritize comfort, function, and flow first — everything else can build from there.

https://preview.redd.it/0is6ghdtlz0h1.png?width=750&format=png&auto=webp&s=2417a30699497a35271acddb9f363c347e90242d

THE GREAT BED DEBATE:

Shopping for a bed can feel overwhelming these days because there are so many options at every price point. On one end, you have full designer beds with upholstered headboards, rails, and footboards. On the other, you can grab a basic metal bed frame for the price of dinner. Neither option is wrong — it really comes down to budget, priorities, and how you want the room to feel.

FULL BED (HEADBOARD + RAILS + FOOTBOARD)

If the budget allows, this is definitely the easiest and most polished option. Whether it’s a beautiful wood frame or an upholstered bed, a complete bed instantly makes the room feel finished and intentional.

The best part? Once you buy it, you’re basically done. No extra pieces, no DIY fixes, no trying to disguise a metal frame later on.

HEADBOARD ONLY

This is honestly one of the best ways to get a high-end look without spending a fortune. A good headboard can completely transform a bedroom and give you the visual impact of a full bed setup.

The downside is that the standard metal frame underneath is usually exposed, which can take away from the overall look. The easiest fix is adding a bed skirt to hide the rails and create a cleaner finish.

BED FRAME ONLY

If you’re working with a super tight budget, don’t stress. A basic frame absolutely does not mean your bedroom has to feel unfinished. There are a lot of simple ways to fake the look of a styled bed setup.

A few easy ideas:

• Add a bed skirt to conceal the metal frame
• Hang oversized artwork where a headboard would normally go
• Use a tapestry or textile wall hanging for softness and texture
• DIY your own headboard
• Paint or wallpaper the wall behind the bed to create contrast and visual interest

At the end of the day, a bedroom doesn’t need expensive furniture to feel cozy and well designed. A few thoughtful details can completely change the way the space looks and feels.

CONTROVERSIAL BEDROOM OPINIONS:

There are a few bedroom design topics that people feel very strongly about, and honestly, there’s no single “right” answer. A lot of it comes down to personality, lifestyle, and what makes your space feel good to you. Here are a few of my most controversial bedroom takes:

RUGS

I know jute rugs are everywhere because they’re affordable and versatile, but personally… I don’t love them in bedrooms. The bedroom is the first place your feet touch in the morning and the last place they touch at night, so comfort matters. Scratchy textures just don’t create that cozy feeling for me.

This is one space where softer, higher-pile rugs, wool rugs, or plush textiles really shine. They instantly make the room feel warmer, calmer, and more luxurious.

PERSONAL ART + PHOTOS

I’m not someone who fills every room in the house with family photos or personal images. I usually prefer decorating with artwork, collected pieces, or objects that feel interesting and intentional.

That said, if there’s one place to lean personal, it’s the bedroom. It’s your private space. Guests rarely spend time there, which makes it the perfect spot for wedding photos, candid family moments, sentimental art, or anything that genuinely makes you happy.

THE TV IN THE BEDROOM

Okay… this one always divides people.

We’ve never had a TV in our bedroom, and honestly, I love it that way. For us, the living room is the place for watching TV, and keeping screens out of the bedroom helps the space feel calmer and more restful.

That said, I know plenty of people love winding down with a show at night, so this one really comes down to lifestyle.

MUSIC > TV

While I’m anti-bedroom TV, I’m very pro-bedroom music. A small wireless speaker or sound system completely changes the mood of a room. Music while getting ready in the morning or relaxing at night just makes the space feel more alive and comforting.

MAKING THE BED

I’m absolutely a bed-maker. Every single morning.

An unmade bed instantly makes the whole room feel chaotic to me, while a made bed makes everything feel cleaner and calmer — even if the rest of the room isn’t perfect.

But if you’re not someone who makes the bed daily, lean into that relaxed look instead of fighting it. Soft linen bedding, layered textures, and slightly undone styling can actually look intentional and cozy.

BALANCE + SYMMETRY

I personally love symmetry in a bedroom. Matching nightstands, matching lamps, balanced layouts… my brain loves it.

But mismatched furniture and lighting can look just as beautiful when it’s done thoughtfully. The trick is making sure the pieces still feel balanced visually. Different doesn’t have to mean random — cohesive finishes, similar scale, and equal visual weight make all the difference.

https://preview.redd.it/rq9qeid3mz0h1.png?width=750&format=png&auto=webp&s=c2e93c1b1878bafaab4b4c4d2431e44e4a98fdc2

In case you’re wondering about the finer details and finishing touches, those are often the elements that truly make a bedroom feel complete. The big furniture pieces matter, of course, but the textures, lighting, materials, and small styling decisions are what bring warmth, personality, and comfort into the space.

https://preview.redd.it/lnvngun6mz0h1.png?width=730&format=png&auto=webp&s=e7a85e25d507079d2e94b3711ab8b78bb42b9cdb

One thing to keep in mind: bed dimensions can actually vary depending on the country. The standard sizes most of us reference are based on common U.S. measurements, so if you’re ordering furniture or bedding internationally, it’s definitely worth double-checking dimensions first.

I’ll also say this — if there’s one place worth splurging a little, it’s window treatments in the bedroom. Blackout curtains or room-darkening shades make such a huge difference in sleep quality, comfort, and the overall atmosphere of the room. It’s one of those upgrades you appreciate every single day.

Honestly, I think bedrooms are one of the easier spaces to design because they serve such a clear purpose. Once you focus on comfort, function, storage, and a calming atmosphere, the rest tends to come together naturally.

What about you guys? Have you ever struggled with decorating your bedroom or figuring out the layout? Hopefully some of these ideas make the process feel a little less overwhelming.

Our Master Bedroom Reveal Finally Finished and Feeling Like Home

https://preview.redd.it/gjpb39aocl0h1.png?width=1000&format=png&auto=webp&s=e47a2d1f8d6cae1b48122bb8ada147e75e05293e

After what felt like forever waiting on the final pieces to arrive, I can finally share our finished master bedroom — and honestly, I’m still kind of obsessed with how it turned out. Fair warning: this is a massive photo dump because I couldn’t stop taking pictures once everything came together.

This room went from being one of the worst spaces in the house to easily one of my favorites. I used to hate lying in bed staring at yellowed walls and outdated finishes, and now I genuinely look forward to winding down in here every night.

For the makeover, we refinished the floors, added contrast moulding, replaced the doors and windows, and updated all the lighting fixtures. I included plenty of before-and-after shots so you can really see how dramatic the transformation was. Full reveal below!

https://preview.redd.it/xmczk0btcl0h1.png?width=750&format=png&auto=webp&s=5afe9ead918263f885d26a9c09f91a01ecf8550e

https://preview.redd.it/n41dyeutcl0h1.png?width=1000&format=png&auto=webp&s=b5a919a502fc89e781d562e807888aeab7fdc1ea

The before photos honestly make the room look way better than it actually was in person. I pulled them straight from the original listing, and I’m pretty convinced they were heavily edited because the space looked much rougher in real life.

https://preview.redd.it/0ul9mbywcl0h1.png?width=750&format=png&auto=webp&s=77bee09b5c31fa7f2d8fa007e45ae0fc63f98733

https://preview.redd.it/rb0i7nmxcl0h1.png?width=1000&format=png&auto=webp&s=c3155eb1adc9b452306cd8154868338990434ade

As soon as you walk into the room, I wanted the new millwork to immediately stand out. I found this charming vintage oil painting from the 1930s and installed it within the panel moulding — it fits the space and color palette so perfectly that it almost feels original to the house.

https://preview.redd.it/8yrlbd30dl0h1.png?width=1000&format=png&auto=webp&s=d555e67cb34616eededd692a07da0758ce13f759

Here’s the view from the opposite side of the room. I completely lucked out finding this vintage runner from Woven in Vintage (my go-to Etsy shop). Honestly, I couldn’t have designed a more perfect rug for this space if I tried.

Usually I build a room around the textiles — pulling paint colors and the overall palette directly from the rug or fabric. This time, I did the exact opposite. I already knew the color palette I wanted, so the challenge became finding a rug that actually worked with it. Definitely the harder route.

Somehow the stars aligned, and here she is… officially my new favorite rug.

https://preview.redd.it/2wnk1lo3dl0h1.png?width=1000&format=png&auto=webp&s=994d4d208eb9e73bf5b4e97af8abc44d13e71d2b

https://preview.redd.it/7owevvd4dl0h1.png?width=1000&format=png&auto=webp&s=5556b593ca516b5ba8ac2943f9e86d1483de619a

We added sconces on both sides of the bed, and they’ve quickly become one of those things I can’t believe we lived without for so long. These things move in basically every direction imaginable. The shades tilt up, down, and side-to-side, and the hinge arm adjusts too, which makes them ridiculously functional while still looking beautiful.

https://preview.redd.it/mq5jgvs6dl0h1.png?width=1000&format=png&auto=webp&s=baba1ad75cb26ae40dc971f95557fd259df79135

https://preview.redd.it/n35f3uh7dl0h1.png?width=1000&format=png&auto=webp&s=40384239b78e5e7dd72a50968f61e6700991ce17

If you’ve been following along for a while, you probably remember the nightstand makeover. I’m happy to report they’ve held up beautifully and ended up being the perfect scale for this space.

One of my favorite things about this room is that almost everything in it has a story behind it — especially the objects on my nightstand. Emmett actually dug up the mid-century bowl in the backyard of our old Ohio house, and since unpacking it here in Utah, I’ve been slowly filling it with little finds from hikes and weekend exploring. I always try to bring home an interesting rock, crystal, or geode from wherever we go, so the bowl has kind of become a collection of memories from this chapter of life.

https://preview.redd.it/v9vdq0z9dl0h1.png?width=1000&format=png&auto=webp&s=e5f7a0d9ec66a134f695e2f64eb878fe232a330c

https://preview.redd.it/9x3bmcoadl0h1.png?width=1000&format=png&auto=webp&s=5e5131ad7b67381c56e9757a96fa545530580168

You’ll probably recognize a few pieces from our previous bedroom. Emmett insisted we keep the sheepskin rug on his side of the bed because apparently he got used to stepping onto it every morning, and now there’s no going back. Ha.

We also kept our bed, which was never really up for debate. It’s one of those pieces I don’t think we could ever part with. I custom designed the leather upholstered frame years ago, and it’s still the most expensive furniture purchase we’ve ever made. Somehow I love it just as much now as I did the day it arrived.

https://preview.redd.it/h9vxopfedl0h1.png?width=1000&format=png&auto=webp&s=6fd381a32f58e8f392e60d9acc117590f151c891

https://preview.redd.it/3hmmpn0fdl0h1.png?width=1000&format=png&auto=webp&s=d8e46db39929b772f3676655b709323f11b34e58

We did switch up the bedding after moving, though. This time we went with a linen duvet, and I honestly couldn’t love it more. Even as someone who faithfully makes the bed every morning, I’m really drawn to that relaxed, perfectly imperfect linen look. The soft wrinkles make the room feel so much more inviting and lived-in — plus it’s unbelievably cozy.

https://preview.redd.it/np2ur8mhdl0h1.png?width=1000&format=png&auto=webp&s=40214d3ecb44b45c5db4f70fb6c84bd8d70864f0

I’m also completely obsessed with the accent pillow. It was such a good find from Coveted Home (they seriously curate the best pieces). The warm orange tones in the kuba cloth pair so perfectly with the cognac leather bed and tie everything together in such a cozy way.

Honestly, after seeing black-and-white mudcloth textiles absolutely everywhere for the past few years, I’ve kind of moved on from them. Kuba cloth feels warmer, more layered, and a lot more unique right now.

https://preview.redd.it/wg6zx6fldl0h1.png?width=1000&format=png&auto=webp&s=ef1339ac82eb18e5e7bd1e552453686ab2a2b042

I definitely have to talk about the art because I’ve gotten so many questions about it already. If you follow along on Instagram stories, you probably saw the whole process of me putting these together. Honestly, it ended up being such a fun and surprisingly inexpensive way to create a gallery wall that still feels really custom and collected.

https://preview.redd.it/id6dxb4odl0h1.png?width=1000&format=png&auto=webp&s=b8e1cd2efdbc482b78bd20a8a1d7842775fb464a

Since I’ve been getting so many great questions about it, I’m planning to put together a separate post later this week all about the art — including how I planned, composed, and installed the grid gallery wall.

https://preview.redd.it/l1mhkrjqdl0h1.png?width=1000&format=png&auto=webp&s=c538b6e3cb0819a22d58109d1bb3a90b56343bf4

Lastly, I have to talk about the window treatments because they ended up making such a huge impact in here. You guys already know this house practically begs for Roman shades thanks to the awkward window shapes and placement throughout the rooms.

For the bedroom, I wanted something neutral, timeless, and still a little graphic. It’s honestly amazing what an inset contrast border can do for a window treatment. If you’re trying to elevate basic shades on a budget, I can’t recommend this detail enough — it instantly makes them look far more custom and expensive than they actually are.

It’s those small stylistic details that really bring a space to life in the end.

https://preview.redd.it/jz08b6ttdl0h1.png?width=1000&format=png&auto=webp&s=238654557e10d084aa5f44255b7bf033699ae7c9

https://preview.redd.it/nyu2i8gudl0h1.png?width=1000&format=png&auto=webp&s=fc69ae8c30fa09b446db1b74357758c224dfab59

If you noticed the lack of plants in this room — which is very unlike me — you’re definitely not imagining things. Since this is a pretty small master bedroom, there really isn’t much extra space to work with. We use every inch of the walking path, and the last thing I wanted was to clutter it up or make the room feel cramped.

That said, I do occasionally rotate this hoya into the bedroom whenever it needs a little break from the intense light in the living room.

And would you believe this plant is actually over 30 years old? Seriously. My sister gave me a cutting from it, and all of my siblings have one too. It originally belonged to her grandmother, which makes it feel even more special to me. Mine is probably the smallest of the bunch, but I love it anyway. Hoyas are incredibly resilient and beautiful, and this one has so much meaning attached to it. You can literally watch it slowly reach and twist toward the light like some kind of Avatar-level plant magic.

How to Recreate This Master Bedroom Look

https://preview.redd.it/2cxjrxl9xd0h1.png?width=1000&format=png&auto=webp&s=bedf72e995bbe0a5a8a63a6637bfe4e3404d319a

As promised, I’m sharing all the sources, details, and final thoughts from our master bedroom makeover. Click through for the full resource list, what I loved, what I’d skip, and the pieces that were absolutely worth it.

https://preview.redd.it/vxucgn6dxd0h1.png?width=750&format=png&auto=webp&s=2693af1e5435638a79a79bb744acc2034d82e4a4

01: Roman shades // 02: Ceiling fan // 03: Leather upholstered bed // 04: Wall sconces // 05: Throw pillow // 06: Campaign nightstand // 07: Vintage runner // 08: Sheepskin // 09: Vintage oil painting // 10: Frames // 11: Linen spray // 12: Live hoya plant // 13: Dimpled planter // 14: Accordion side table // 15: Brass door hardware // 16: Washed linen duvet // 17: Sherwin-Williams Gray Screen (trim color) // 18: Sherwin-Williams Snowbound (wall color)

The Roman shades in our bedroom are custom-made (I shared more details in another post), but #1 is a really close match for a fraction of the price if you have standard-size windows. Same story with the bed — I custom designed our leather bed, but Pottery Barn now carries a version (#3) that gives a very similar look for much less.

The nightstands are vintage originals, but if you’re not in the mood for a furniture hunt or restoration project, #6 is almost identical in both color and style.

I also linked the plant and planter details (#12 & #13). This hoya is basically part of the family at this point — it survived our move and several rough phases, and somehow still thrives. Truly one of the easiest plants to keep alive. They also grow surprisingly fast, and it’s fun watching them slowly reach toward the light over time.

https://preview.redd.it/bdx9heugxd0h1.png?width=1000&format=png&auto=webp&s=1b710896304fc56a5a34743f057967160e737cab

The runner is one of those pieces that completely makes the room. Unfortunately, it’s vintage and truly one-of-a-kind, so there’s no exact source for it. I found it through Woven in Vintage — one of my favorite Etsy shops for unique textiles and rugs. I linked the closest match I could find above (#7), and it gives a really similar feel in the space.

https://preview.redd.it/u51ful6kxd0h1.png?width=1000&format=png&auto=webp&s=5648e870f1f9ddfde6269d48f2a5279cbfdf509f

The bedside sconces (#4) ended up exceeding my expectations. We have a dimmable pair in the guest room that I still love, but these feel much more functional and dynamic. They swivel and adjust in pretty much every direction, which makes them perfect for reading or winding down at night. I also love how minimal and timeless they look — especially at this price point.

https://preview.redd.it/ptv73n9nxd0h1.png?width=1000&format=png&auto=webp&s=4cde808d1e4c8b7e3db331b052291c3d44401101

You really can’t beat the price of the washed linen duvet (#16), but I was honestly disappointed that it didn’t come with duvet ties — one of my biggest bedding pet peeves. Still, for $99 including king-size shams, I decided it was worth keeping and just sewed in my own ties. A reader also recommended some handy duvet clips, which are a great no-sew option.

I’ve mentioned linen spray (#11) on the blog before, but I’m fully obsessed. I rotate between a few favorites, and it’s such an easy little luxury that keeps the bedding smelling fresh all the time. I usually give the duvet a quick spritz each morning when I make the bed.

I think that covers everything worth linking and sharing! If you have questions about anything else in the room, leave a comment and I’ll happily answer. The grid gallery wall post is coming on Thursday, so definitely check back for that. For a smaller master bedroom, this space turned out to feel really cozy, layered, and complete — I truly love how it came together.

Seasonal Cozy Bedding Refresh

https://preview.redd.it/83daq67wu60h1.png?width=1000&format=png&auto=webp&s=1cd387e0bec117b90e90c897f261cc37055e7a33

It’s starting to get noticeably colder here in Utah, and with winter (hopefully snowy) and the holidays around the corner, I’ve been slowly shifting things around at home to match the season.

One of the biggest changes has been swapping out the bedding for something more fall/winter appropriate. I ended up redoing the bedroom setup, so I thought I’d shoot it again and share how it looks right now.

It’s definitely leaning more cozy and moody darker tones, a bit more color, but still in that muted, desaturated range.

Click through for the updated bedroom tour + resource list.

https://preview.redd.it/63r68j01v60h1.png?width=1000&format=png&auto=webp&s=4b96f3601f067891568b2db363392803dca29edb

Step into the master and take a look. Our bedroom usually looks like this in spring and summer, but I love switching things up with the seasons—for both comfort and style.

https://preview.redd.it/qympu0c4v60h1.png?width=1000&format=png&auto=webp&s=1c029408cc51e7f10a101a3eb3d2564e8d64bb36

https://preview.redd.it/efic28u4v60h1.png?width=1000&format=png&auto=webp&s=0cb9d26be523861a9d67670028d70bed73100631

I like layering in a coverlet or matelassé for that extra bit of warmth and texture. Along with switching to heavier bedding, I also wanted to darken the overall feel of the room a bit.

We already had some navy in the space from the nightstands (they weren’t always that color, though), so leaning into dark blue bedding felt like a natural choice.

https://preview.redd.it/lf3fo957v60h1.png?width=1000&format=png&auto=webp&s=470f5301b962b6e01d09184397ddad8d9b69c41d

On top of the new basic bedding, I’ll admit I’ve basically turned into a throw blanket collector. I added a plaid throw at the foot of the bed that fits the room’s palette perfectly.

Throws are just genuinely useful—you can curl up with one to read, watch TV, or sneak in a nap. And they’re a lifesaver when you have guests over and suddenly realize you’re short on extra blankets.

https://preview.redd.it/dtajn57av60h1.png?width=1000&format=png&auto=webp&s=a5127efc5d8f41fe89ee3533b7df44f7162ad37f

I also wanted to touch on a few things we’ve been loving (and a few we’re not totally sold on) in the master bedroom so far.

At the very top of the “loves” list is the grid gallery wall with the vintage ski art—I’m still very into it. Living in Utah and being avid skiers, those vintage prints feel especially fitting and fun in our home.

If you’re thinking about doing your own grid gallery wall, I’ve put together a post with art ideas, tips, and even exact layouts you can replicate.

https://preview.redd.it/jelct4bdv60h1.png?width=1000&format=png&auto=webp&s=d20ec48e8cf88063c3acf5cccf2074b0c1c0f498

Beyond the artwork, one of our absolute favorite features from day one has been the sconces. We barely ever use the overhead ceiling fan light anymore.

The room gets great natural light during the day, and in the evenings we rely entirely on the sconces. I love that they’re adjustable and each side can be controlled independently.

I tend to read while Emmett drifts off to sleep, and they give just the right amount of light—enough to see clearly without disturbing him.

https://preview.redd.it/zs21s1ygv60h1.png?width=1000&format=png&auto=webp&s=3fc9ac0be5a028e8ded9ee6c505fee2b96f31b19

Since the reveal, we’ve added a little gadget to the bedroom too. If you remember the Aera we have in the living room, we ended up getting another one for here.

It tucks away nicely behind my nightstand, but the scent it puts out completely transforms the room. It honestly makes the space feel so good and puts me in the best mood as I’m winding down at night.

https://preview.redd.it/regbii5kv60h1.png?width=1000&format=png&auto=webp&s=68b0506dc55ee0283112c36efda65e003e47619e

If you’re wondering what’s on the “dislike” list… there are definitely a few things in the bedroom we’re not loving as much as we thought we would.

Top of that list right now is the window treatments. I’ve got to admit, I’m not thrilled with how functional they turned out—and honestly, I’m the one to blame for that one.

https://preview.redd.it/gbiztnunv60h1.png?width=1000&format=png&auto=webp&s=c950dd3a1460ab30cc500aeef38a2540310f4b6d

They do look beautiful and they give us privacy, but I really should’ve gone with blackout shades and just spent the extra money upfront.

Normally privacy shades would’ve been enough, but our neighbors have these super bright lights they keep on 24/7 (so annoying), and it definitely filters right through the Roman shades.

I’m the kind of person who needs a room completely dark to sleep, so that’s easily my biggest regret in this space.

https://preview.redd.it/q2qh6h0rv60h1.png?width=1000&format=png&auto=webp&s=40d578411bbae18eb1504ff62c84b2c76352c937

If you’re curious about sources in the space as it looks now, I’ve linked everything below.

https://preview.redd.it/nkuw46mvv60h1.png?width=750&format=png&auto=webp&s=b17f615d552bb091857baab7ff2156998749f243

Curious what your favorites are in the space? I honestly have a hard time narrowing down my “best” finds or most-loved pieces.

The bed is probably the one thing I know we’re not parting with anytime soon—we’ve had it for years and still love it. I custom designed it originally, but I linked a similar option in the roundup.

https://preview.redd.it/s7i7hbjyv60h1.png?width=1000&format=png&auto=webp&s=90308bad9f33d625f3bce9a1c706cb892826f400

Our bedroom might be on the smaller side, but it feels really cozy—especially after the bedding swap. It’s honestly become one of my favorite places to spend time in the house.

I’d really love to hear your thoughts in the comments—do you prefer the spring/summer version of our bedroom, or this fall/winter setup?

Do you switch out your bedding with the seasons too, or stick with the same look year-round?

Any questions or thoughts? I’m all ears!

Master Bedroom Makeover Update

https://preview.redd.it/rs562gn4cszg1.png?width=1000&format=png&auto=webp&s=8956f2a0ba3a89b1bea62f99652c61fc61601ef0

Over the past couple of months, we’ve taken on a ton of projects laundry room, kitchen, even the carport. Just thinking about it makes me tired But Emmett and I made a deal: once the kitchen is fully done, we’re setting aside time for some much-needed rest and relaxation.

With that in mind (and the change of seasons), I decided to give our master bedroom a quick refresh. I swapped out the bedding to create a light, calming space for spring and summer. It was a simple update, but it really brought back that cozy, hotel-like feel I love.

Swipe through to see how the room has evolved over time…

https://preview.redd.it/no6nxgb9cszg1.png?width=1000&format=png&auto=webp&s=3b1cd2b8c01aee137e621ba291792e53a6e28e2e

Just a quick note click here if you want to see our fall and winter bedding setup, and here’s how the space looked exactly one year ago.

https://preview.redd.it/119lg31dcszg1.png?width=1000&format=png&auto=webp&s=095970c39c9de06951147ad631304f8c4fb91901

It’s wild how just changing the bedding can completely transform a room. It instantly feels fresh again almost like stepping into a hotel (at least until the novelty wears off ). Honestly, that’s the best part… getting that “hotel at home” feeling without leaving your space.

https://preview.redd.it/8c94qfpkcszg1.png?width=1000&format=png&auto=webp&s=a79b77f0a338873fffaa5287134c161981c1d668

I still like using a duvet in the summer because I really enjoy that soft, plush feel. We use a lightweight to medium insert, and I with this duvet cover in the color Sand.

I’m a big fan of sateen, and Parachute does it really well it has that smooth, silky feel without any of the shine. And personally, I’m not into that glossy look at all.

https://preview.redd.it/twdys4socszg1.png?width=1000&format=png&auto=webp&s=62c757aef3acde1f5cb489435ba54bb1474db243

Cash is clearly a big fan of the new bedding too. We’ve been catching him snoozing up here lately… which is definitely not allowed, but honestly, how do you say no to that face? And those teeth

https://preview.redd.it/ilwaosorcszg1.png?width=1000&format=png&auto=webp&s=9f4942e470c7402223648f9c4363734beadb52f5

Along with the new duvet, I also swapped out our sheets. They feel noticeably softer, silkier, and a lot more crisp compared to our old set. These are sateen and a bit lighter than our previous cotton sheets, which makes them perfect for spring and summer.

I’m also firmly in the white sheets camp. There’s just something about being able to see when they’re clean they always look fresh and put together. I honestly can’t see myself ever going for patterned or colored sheets, but I guess you never know… stranger things have happened.

https://preview.redd.it/05g6olnucszg1.png?width=1000&format=png&auto=webp&s=37e90ba5b3ff5037b51e0207c1f4c14b5a979065

I’m really into texture and layering when it comes to bedding even in the warmer months. I’ll usually add a throw or a matelassé at the foot of the bed, both for the look and for a bit of extra warmth when I need it.

I tend to run cold at night, while Emmett is always hot, so having that extra layer I can pull over just my side of the bed works really well for us.

https://preview.redd.it/q6dk1hqxcszg1.png?width=1000&format=png&auto=webp&s=76be23caba5d3c500f6c232d2d4da53e7d833695

When I came across this storm blue matelassé, I was immediately sold. It pairs so beautifully with the contrast millwork and trim it just works in here so well. It honestly feels like it could’ve been made specifically for our bedroom.

https://preview.redd.it/bx57zd61dszg1.png?width=1000&format=png&auto=webp&s=ecd4cf3cc1b9abe878321e7f435bac4e22226933

https://preview.redd.it/ko7giiy1dszg1.png?width=1000&format=png&auto=webp&s=f41d05c681cc887cecc9ef16437cf228b786b558

Things I’m still loving about our bedroom, even a year later: the color palette, the artwork (I’ve shared more on grid gallery wall ideas and content here!), the contrast trim, our vintage nightstands, the bedside sconces (so convenient), and the vintage runner.

https://preview.redd.it/5bwm2xb4dszg1.png?width=1000&format=png&auto=webp&s=bd65041e4de1119d89a7f1e6560dbb9675132ce2

My nightstand has definitely gotten a little more cluttered over the past year, but everything on it serves a purpose and still makes me happy to have there.

https://preview.redd.it/nqvq2wy8dszg1.png?width=1000&format=png&auto=webp&s=0626f410209b58bf569ced4dda8961bcac0d1974

https://preview.redd.it/t0nv4vi9dszg1.png?width=1000&format=png&auto=webp&s=b31cbffd9a41ae9218faa9b2f9a59da61b9297c2

Some people ask if I swap the art out for summer since it’s seasonally themed… and that’s a hard no

First off, we live in Salt Lake City, Utah, so anything ski-related is kind of everywhere—and honestly, Emmett and I both love skiing anyway. Second, even if I had the time to rotate art seasonally (I don’t), I probably still wouldn’t. I’m still not over how cool these pieces are.

And third… in one of the photos, the women are basically in swim/bra tops, so I’m counting that as summer-appropriate regardless.

Do you guys actually rotate your art with the seasons? For something permanent like a gallery wall, that feels like a lot of work.

https://preview.redd.it/j0mdwnccdszg1.png?width=1000&format=png&auto=webp&s=8e913802c144512012cfcab7889d07d84ac17555

I’m happy to say our R&R time and the kitchen reveal is really close now. We’re almost there, and I can’t wait to slow down a bit, nap, cuddle the dogs, and actually enjoy all the work we’ve put into these renovations.

It feels like this bedroom refresh came at exactly the right moment. Kind of a small reward after a long stretch of busy, tiring days. And honestly, the timing couldn’t be better.

The days of sleeping in are just around the corner, and I’m really looking forward to it.

https://preview.redd.it/citxo2wfdszg1.png?width=1000&format=png&auto=webp&s=6cc064d1a660e9ce514df8b1c043c2813990eea0

That pretty much wraps up the changes. Which version of our bedroom do you like best?

I’ve updated the links below as well there are similar options for the vintage pieces if you want sources for anything!

Our guest room was the very first space I shared in our Utah home back in March 2017 (original reveal here). It came together quickly—one of those rare projects that just falls into place. The goal was simple: keep it comfortable, minimal (since it’s a guest space), and cohesive with the rest of the home.

Two pieces from our move shaped the entire room—a Turkish rug and a vintage tallboy dresser. They’ve stayed put ever since and are still my favorite elements in the space. Over time, though, especially after our kitchen renovation, the room needed a refresh. During construction, our dogs basically took over the guest room, and the bedding didn’t survive unscathed.

It’s amazing how much of a difference textiles can make. A simple swap of bedding and a few small updates completely brought the room back to life. It’s now functional again and ready for guests arriving in just a few weeks. Keep reading to see how the space has evolved and for tips on creating layered, hotel-like bedding with Annie Selke.

To put things in perspective, I’ve also included what the room looked like when we first bought the house. It actually needed the least work of any space, which is why we started renovating here.

https://preview.redd.it/pv3a7m0rqczg1.png?width=750&format=png&auto=webp&s=bd475dc5402a6e1c07352d78380fefe44b80b4a2

This is what the space has looked like over the past year and a half…

https://preview.redd.it/7hwmydkuqczg1.png?width=750&format=png&auto=webp&s=8265f8ae45ecc4fb221843c0aa56a29454894299

This is how the space looks today… the updated bedding feels perfect as we head into fall over the next few months.

https://preview.redd.it/bus64d8zqczg1.png?width=1000&format=png&auto=webp&s=f6e21b7d1220c5b1ee55570daaf5b1385f9c3542

I knew I wanted to replace the inexpensive bedding with something that felt more elevated and luxurious. Over time, I’ve really come to appreciate quality, layered bedding that feels inviting and has a lot of texture.

My goal was to create a more hotel-like experience for guests, but I also didn’t want to go overboard on budget since this room only gets used every so often when we have visitors.

That’s what led me to Annie Selke’s new Bed 101 collection—a more affordable line they launched earlier this summer.

https://preview.redd.it/zxcty6a4rczg1.png?width=1000&format=png&auto=webp&s=2dd486c010d2a72b1e41429ad5182288385a38db

It’s simple, stylish, functional—and most importantly, affordable. It also takes the guesswork out of layering bedding since everything is sold in curated sets.

Buying the bundles even comes with an extra 15% off compared to purchasing items individually, which made it an ideal fit for my guest room setup.

https://preview.redd.it/7bzxs759rczg1.png?width=1000&format=png&auto=webp&s=0d43edee9c199f6caed75055c4abbec6eeb34475

HOW TO LAYER BEDDING

First, figure out how you want the bed to feel. Do you sleep hot or cold? What textures do you actually enjoy at night? Once you’ve narrowed that down, it becomes much easier to choose the right bundle—and build from there.

Since this is a guest room, I leaned into the most universally comfortable textures and weights. Here’s what I went with:

white sheeting + matching shams
I’m personally a fan of sateen, but this line also comes in percale and washed linen. I stuck with white because it’s timeless, easy to maintain, and gives that crisp hotel feel. If white isn’t your thing, there are also soft gray and blue options.

essential white duvet cover
I chose white sateen here so I could layer in more texture and subtle color through the coverlet and accents.

matelassé coverlet
The Boyfriend collection is one of my favorites—the colors are beautiful (mine is vetiver), but what really stands out is the texture. It’s that soft, broken-in cotton feel that instantly makes a bed feel more inviting.

matelassé shams
Since I loved the coverlet, I added the matching shams too. I also like how the soft gray-green tone plays off the neutral headboard without overwhelming the space.

bubble throw
I always keep a throw in the guest room. It gives guests flexibility—extra warmth for sleeping, or something light for naps. Plus, it adds another layer of texture, which I always think makes a bed feel more finished.

decorative pillow
To finish it off, I keep it simple with one or two accent pillows. I used one I made myself, but there are plenty of great options available as well. In a guest room especially, I’ve found that less really is more.

https://preview.redd.it/4azmvegdrczg1.png?width=1000&format=png&auto=webp&s=e01d76af9dc1903be9fc837cdc73b945a18fdec9

Whether you’re starting completely from scratch or outfitting multiple beds at once, sticking with the Bed 101 collection is an easy, stress-free option.

I also think it’s especially great for college students heading off to school—something budget-friendly, but still with that elevated look and feel of higher-end bedding.

Basically, if you’re building a bed from the ground up, the “Must Have Set” is the best place to start. It includes all the essentials, from the duvet insert and mattress pad to pillow inserts and pillow protectors, so you’re covered from day one.

After hosting guests over the past year or two, it became pretty clear that less styling and decor in this space actually works better. Our home is on the smaller side, and surface space is limited.

Between cosmetics, luggage, a glass of water, and travel cases, the nightstands and dresser were constantly being used. So I decided to clear them off and keep things much more minimal and functional (you can see the tallboy transformation here).

https://preview.redd.it/gmmvfb7vrczg1.png?width=1000&format=png&auto=webp&s=f6f4eb47c15793d89fc96c75b3831ea703300cb6

I also like to keep a candle in this room for guests to use if they want. I wasn’t sure if it would actually get any attention, but the last time we had friends over they lit it right away and even commented on how amazing it smelled. Definitely a small but satisfying win.

https://preview.redd.it/9u003gl0sczg1.png?width=1000&format=png&auto=webp&s=0203777ddbd6b8c0aa0fa294f881027b48e3512f

From a design standpoint, I’m still really loving the minimal millwork, the bedside sconces, the velvet bed, and the neutral palette in this space. It all feels calm, casual, and relaxed—exactly the vibe I wanted for a guest room.

Even better, it’s holding up really well over time, which is always the real test.

https://preview.redd.it/x6p17t34sczg1.png?width=1000&format=png&auto=webp&s=f1520c56740ac9d71153f8e0a103ea444d03be60

Here’s hoping I can keep the dogs out of here for good this time. Johnny Cash is already trying to reclaim the bed… and honestly, I don’t really blame him—it’s pretty much turned into the comfiest spot in the house. But if the bedding gets messed up again, I won’t be too happy about it.

https://preview.redd.it/rxsubig7sczg1.png?width=1000&format=png&auto=webp&s=05a8d9ae051be59eb0e1fe1933f275ded906f897

If you have any questions about bedding, layering textiles, or styling a guest room, I’m always happy to chat through it.

I’d also love to know what you think—do you prefer it in its current version, or how it looked when I first revealed it? I’m constantly swapping things out and rearranging, so it never really stays the same for long. This version just feels really in tune with the season and how the space is actually being used right now.

Emmett and I each have a favorite piece of furniture, and it also happens to be the very first “nice” thing we bought together after moving into our first home.

It’s probably not hard to guess… yes, our leather bed.

At the time, it felt like a real splurge, but we chose it intentionally knowing we wanted something timeless that we’d keep for years. I was working at a design firm then, so I actually custom-designed the bed myself.

Fast forward to now, and it’s easily the most frequently asked-about piece in our home. The only downside? There’s no link I can share because it was fully custom-made.

After years of replying with “sorry, it’s custom,” I figured it was time to put something together properly.

So I’m sharing 9 alternative leather beds in a similar cognac/brown leather tone to ours. Scroll through to see what I found.

https://preview.redd.it/cifqnvdrl6zg1.png?width=1000&format=png&auto=webp&s=fa4936882d8d7e8a8bd013c4cbc407088fc24433

Over the years, the bedding and surrounding decor have changed, but I’m still really happy with the bed itself.

https://preview.redd.it/4vjy952ul6zg1.png?width=1000&format=png&auto=webp&s=f6e91961cf03312c2987872491f25c7578f1e16b

Shop the beds below by clicking directly on each option.

There are some really great options in the mix here. I might even go as far as saying I like a couple of them even more than our own bed. A lot of these are also customizable, and they all come in different sizes and leather color options.

https://preview.redd.it/sfv38yuzl6zg1.png?width=1000&format=png&auto=webp&s=cca59f75b6319ef99d7168da7d1506ec5104c5d8

I really think a solid piece of furniture—like a bed made from quality materials such as leather—is a worthwhile investment. In our case, it’s been a splurge that absolutely paid off, and we still love it just as much as we did the day it was delivered.

https://preview.redd.it/3t1rwbl2m6zg1.png?width=1000&format=png&auto=webp&s=4f2bb2d3fbccd3ad4d6c3082d5a795b56aa9c194

It’s really become a symbol of home for us, something we were proud to buy and that has stayed with us through every renovation. It just feels special. And if a piece of furniture can bring that kind of feeling, it’s definitely a keeper.

https://preview.redd.it/tnxe0q25m6zg1.png?width=1000&format=png&auto=webp&s=94e680565072b20757efd53d1a0aff63bdf69f9f

The dogs are also very happy with it. Thanks to how durable leather is, they can’t really do much damage to it—which basically means more “forbidden” cuddle sessions in bed with the little cuties. Haha!

I wish we could sleep in tomorrow, but it’s a mad dash to finish the guest bathroom this weekend. Wish us luck. We’ll definitely have plenty of time to catch up on sleep later in our pretty leather bed.

Hope you all have an amazing weekend—see you back here on Monday!

Before my family arrived for a visit, I wanted to make better use of an awkward space in one of the guest rooms. There’s a large window dormer above the garage that adds extra square footage—but the shape made it tricky to work with.

I’m always happy to have more space, but this one wasn’t straightforward. It wasn’t quite large enough for a daybed or twin bed, and a built-in felt like more effort than I wanted to take on for a guest room right now. At the same time, there wasn’t enough room for traditional seating either.

I ended up choosing an armless sofa that fits wall-to-wall and almost reads like a built-in, creating a simple, comfortable lounge area. I also updated the light fixture, added a ceiling medallion, and replaced the plantation shutters with drapery to soften the space.

Swipe through to see the before, after, and how I approached the design.

BEFORE

https://preview.redd.it/3y0so7r73zyg1.png?width=1000&format=png&auto=webp&s=2bbb26aae1727099920d3016be0b74624b316c47

AFTER

https://preview.redd.it/48fljc193zyg1.png?width=1000&format=png&auto=webp&s=3e3b233c3386abdbe60b35c5be55d85d41efb6c3

Finding an armless sofa or bench that could span wall-to-wall was probably the hardest part of this space. I searched online for about a week before I came across the “build your own” Harmony sofa. I knew I wanted something armless and extra deep, and I got lucky—West Elm actually offers this model in an extra-deep configuration.

The cushions are a down blend, and it’s genuinely very comfortable. It’s just slightly shorter than a twin bed, which makes it ideal for our nieces and nephews if they ever need a cozy place to sleep close to their parents when visiting.

I’m always drawn to pieces that can do more than one thing. This works as a guest room lounge, a reading nook, extra seating, a landing spot for luggage or clothing—and even a backup sleeping setup when needed. Most importantly, it fits the space perfectly, like it was made for it.

https://preview.redd.it/v8b6rugc3zyg1.png?width=1000&format=png&auto=webp&s=adc186ce2572707dd9363e46bfe9737634527e07

I stumbled across this C-table from Target that slides perfectly over the sofa cushion, which makes it an easy spot for a coffee (or any drink), a book, a laptop, or even a small floral arrangement. For $60, it’s honestly a steal. It feels sturdy, looks more expensive than it is, and I really like the X detail on the back.

The lighting update ended up making one of the biggest differences in the room. I paired a ceiling medallion with a beautiful semi-flush mount fixture. The light is actually on sale right now for $120 and comes in a few different finishes, which is a nice bonus.

https://preview.redd.it/mbctenhf3zyg1.png?width=1000&format=png&auto=webp&s=58dd066316d9e01265679f0fbd1c2f4e666df1f3

For the window treatments, I removed the plantation shutters and swapped them for drapery panels to soften the space. I do like shutters, they just don’t feel right for the windows in this house, and they also made this bedroom window feel a bit small and bulky. The curtains really help add softness and a little drama to the window nook instead.

For now, I’m using a simple tension rod with IKEA Birtine panels. I’d love to eventually upgrade to custom blackout drapery, but this setup works really well in the meantime. I also pleated the panels—if you’re not sure what that means, I’ve shared a DIY on it previously.

I’ve linked everything else in the slider below in case you’re curious about any of the sources.

My house guests just left, but my grandma stayed in this room and absolutely loved this cozy corner. She spent a lot of time here reading with her morning coffee, which honestly made the whole project feel worth it.

Eventually we’ll renovate this room, but even if the paint, trim, and millwork change, I’ll definitely keep the window nook setup. It’ll be fun to see how it evolves over time.

As for me, I’m signing off for the weekend. Emmett and I are celebrating his birthday, so I’ll be a bit quiet over the next few days. I’ll share more soon, but check back tomorrow for a spring bar cart post from Jacqueline—she’s stepping in again while I take a long weekend. It’s been a busy one. See you next week.

A few weeks ago, I shared my goals for all our outdoor spaces—both short-term fixes and long-term ideas. With the weather finally turning beautiful, it felt like the right time to start knocking out some of those smaller projects and actually enjoy the spaces this season.

I’ve been sharing bits on Instagram, but this weekend I’m officially starting with the bedroom balcony. It’s going to be a quick, mostly cosmetic refresh for now, but I wanted to document the process as pieces start arriving and share the before photos along the way.

Scroll through to see the starting point and follow how this little space transforms over the next few weeks.

https://preview.redd.it/32j0u2sharyg1.png?width=1000&format=png&auto=webp&s=809047c7d61b9e55789c6f779c0f13773131395c

All the before photos are included here, and they pretty much speak for themselves—the space is basically a blank canvas right now.

https://preview.redd.it/onqzttjoaryg1.png?width=1000&format=png&auto=webp&s=c2548f3aff05c8b19cb49132133939b1af8a1873

I’m really eager to get outside, break out the power washer, and give everything a proper scrub. The railings, columns, and vinyl roof have definitely seen better days and are looking a bit grimy right now. The good news is it’s nothing serious—just built-up dirt—and it should come right back to a clean, bright white with a bit of effort.

https://preview.redd.it/z80pzfdraryg1.png?width=1000&format=png&auto=webp&s=31a4210d0e52eb20214a028e3ae67e17a85b82a6

To recap the plan, I’ll be focusing on the short-term updates first, with a bigger overhaul hopefully coming in the next couple of years.

SHORT-TERM GOALS:

  • Clean the railings, columns, soffit, and ceiling
  • Paint the floor
  • Paint the brick
  • Add outdoor drapery on the side to block the view of the neighbor’s porch (shown below)
  • Bring in an outdoor rug
  • Add some seating to make the space usable

LONG-TERM GOALS:

  • Structurally reinforce or rebuild the lower columns
  • Replace the subfloor
  • Install tile flooring
  • Update the railing system
  • Add a ceiling fan
  • Replace the doors with larger sliding or accordion-style ones
  • Install gutters for proper drainage

https://preview.redd.it/e81wwh3varyg1.png?width=1000&format=png&auto=webp&s=88b6d8d820244c88f0411e8a4ac5dc94804fa3a2

This balcony really feels like an extension of the primary suite, and it’s a pretty generous space at 12′ x 11′. I love being able to open the doors and let the dogs come and go freely—it makes it feel so connected to the rest of the home.

I can also really see myself using it as a workspace. It’s shaded for most of the day, and I could easily imagine starting mornings out here with a laptop and coffee, or stepping out for a quiet lunch break during a busy workday.

And honestly, the views from up here are incredible—it’s one of those spaces that just has a lot of potential once it’s pulled together.

https://preview.redd.it/ldz8mdjmbryg1.png?width=1000&format=png&auto=webp&s=6ca248a882fcb2ae4dd5ac42c427f2268cf57706

That brings me to the plan. Since I already know how I want to use the space, I decided to mix in both lounge seating and a small bistro set—so it works just as well for relaxing as it does for working or eating outside.

I leaned into a look that feels classic, comfortable, and functional. That balance was really the goal here, and I’m hoping it comes through in the choices.

You can click on the items below or use the links at the bottom to see where everything is from.

https://preview.redd.it/5x4f5t6rbryg1.png?width=730&format=png&auto=webp&s=0ed324c71ab5a4815d9e03d4b7f3287e59866dbb

Loveseat // ottoman // black planter // boxwood topiary // dog water bowl // woven tray // throw blanket // tassel pillow // outdoor curtains // bistro chairs // marble table // olive tree // outdoor rug

I’m still waiting on a few more pieces to arrive, but so far everything has honestly exceeded expectations—it’s all looking really beautiful in person.

Right now, the hallway just outside our primary bedroom has basically become a holding zone for everything until I can get the painting done this weekend. Emmett says he’s gotten used to me turning random corners of the house into staging areas at this point… not sure I’d call that a compliment though

https://preview.redd.it/qlgwohhubryg1.png?width=1000&format=png&auto=webp&s=2aa7f334bd97128f2bbeb524d8384b3cc92f6acf

This weekend, the plan is to give the space a really solid clean, then paint the brick and floor. After that, next week I’ll start bringing everything out and getting it set up properly.

It’s not a huge or complicated project, but I’m really hoping it turns into one of those spots I naturally gravitate toward a lot more—especially for slow mornings or getting some work done outside.

I’d love to know what you think—can you see where I’m going with this?

P.S. if you’re curious how I put together the design plan moodboard

Lately I’ve been a little obsessed with beds we’re upgrading the mattress in our master bedroom later this month, and I’m also finishing up the last guest room bed frame. With house guests lined up this summer (and honestly, pretty much year-round), I’ve been slowly building out our sleeping setups as we go.

Furnishing an entire home is no joke especially on a budget so I’ve been taking my time and piecing things together room by room. This month I turned to Amazon to see if I could finally find that last bed frame. Might as well make Prime shipping work for me.

I ended up saving a bunch of options, and honestly… Amazon still surprises me. There are some really solid bed frames at every price point, from budget-friendly to more elevated picks.

If you’re also in the market for a new bed, I’ve rounded up what I found click through below to shop the ones I saved this month.

https://preview.redd.it/224o0p0u8eyg1.png?width=730&format=png&auto=webp&s=653e429391c1e58b3d4fbefbb5ef968858d0a540

With so many gorgeous options, I’m honestly having a hard time narrowing it down. Now that we’ve got more space, I keep circling back to the idea of going bigger and trying something like a canopy or a statement posted bed it just feels like the kind of piece that could completely change the room.

I could never part with our leather bed (it’s kind of a favorite), but I keep wondering if it might end up living in a guest room while we upgrade the master instead. Or maybe I switch everything around and end up falling in love with a totally different setup… who knows.

At this point I’m basically collecting ideas more than making decisions. Do you have a favorite style? I could use some outside opinions because I’m definitely not locked in on anything yet.

https://preview.redd.it/smdwfjt09eyg1.png?width=1000&format=png&auto=webp&s=b0fad45f339258c9e6a55f80753bb39f7ab800a8

We basically picked up our old guest room setup and moved it into a different guest space in the new house, so that part has stayed the same. Now I’m kind of itching to shake things up a bit and finally pair our nightstands with a new bed.

Those nightstands have definitely been through it they used to be in our master bedroom back when we lived in Ohio. They’ve moved, adapted, and somehow still held up, so they’re not going anywhere anytime soon. They’ve kind of become one of those “forever” pieces.

I’m just stuck now trying to figure out what kind of bed would actually feel like the right match.

https://preview.redd.it/wu6qbt949eyg1.png?width=742&format=png&auto=webp&s=e01adc93fc0ef1729ba1a96daa2de27d6d5dfe60

I usually lean toward upholstered beds because they feel cozier and more inviting to me, but I have to admit the wood options in this roundup are really making me rethink things.

I’m curious when it comes to bed frames, do you prefer upholstered, metal, or wood?

We actually had a wood bed like the one pictured above in our first home’s guest room, and I really loved the warmth it added to the space. So now I’m right back in that “decision paralysis” phase again.

No matter what I end up choosing, I’m hoping this roundup is helpful if you’re also trying to figure out your own setup. Have a great day, friends!
