This group has been incredibly helpful to me. My wife and I are planning a rennovation for our house. We live at the beach in NJ. I had posted previously and the group really helped push me to a higher level of thinking. I have reflected on the feedback for hours. I want to check back in now for another round of feedback.

I outlined 2 options. The main difference between the two is the location of the kitchen. Option 1 has the kitchen in the back right of the house. Option 2 has the kitchen in the back left. The first floor is 25 feet wide and 42 feet deep. For scale each box on the graph represents 2 feet.

Option 1 doesn't require any signficant structural work as the wall between the kitchen and dining room would stay. Option 2 requires taking out that wall, which is load bearing. I didn't see a need for a kitchen that is 25x16 so I added a 8x10 mudroom that you would enter in for option 2.

Option 1:

  • no wall removal
  • I was going to do corner windows for 8 feet eminating from the corner which has view of backyard and a wonderful 12 foot tall 70 foot long hedgerow
  • cheaper
  • entrance would require steps from outside in the middle of the patio
  • closer to existing kitchen so less distance to move water etc.

Option 2:

  • more expensive
  • worse view (hedgerow on that side is newly planted and will not totally block my neighbor's house which is right there for a few years)
  • allows for the creation of a mudroom at the back of the house
  • by turning the island it might reduce the bowling alley feel

Mudroom: currently we actually use the front door the most. We have an enclosed porch. Our plan was to create lockers etc. up front. We would still do that. The mudroom in the back would just be so that each entrance has an area to contain mess.

Would love to hear some thoughts from the group. The previous feedback has been so helpful in helping identify blind spots etc.

▲ 1 r/Tree

Plants: emerald greens

Location: Jersey Shore

Sunlight: direct sunlight as hous faces east

Watering: drip/soaker hoses

Planted: batch on left fence was planted fall 2025. Batch on back fence was planted 4/1/26

B&B trees

Looking for some guidance from the group. These are emerald greens that were planted in 2 batches. The ones on the fence along the left side of the property were mostly planted in the fall of last year.

The ones along the back of the fence and just the far left corner were planted on 4/1. Both sets were 7-8 feet tall. 3rd photo shows the right side of my property which is obviously healthy and well established. Photos 4 and 5 are at root level. As there is 30 emerald greens in this area I picked 2 soil line photos that are representative.

Concerns: I do not know what to make of the browning. The ones on the left could be from winter burn. Not sure. I don't know what to make about the ones on the back of the fence which are 5 weeks old.

Overall just want to get guidance from group about how to treat them etc. They serve as a beautiful privacy fence as the 3rd photo shows and I want to make sure to take care of these new ones (photos 1 and 2). All info is appreciated.

Apologies if this is in the wrong spot/su Reddit. Yesterday was my wife’s birthday and she decided she wanted to go shopping. I had no issue with this since I actually really enjoy going with my wife. Part of her gifts was the items she ended up selecting. Followed it up with a broadway show and she is happy as can be.

I want to surprise her now though that she wouldn’t be expecting anything else. There was a show we used to watch called Tidelanders. I won’t get into the premise but one of the main females wore these beautiful dresses.

So I decided I am going to try to locate something similar for her. The first photo is my wife. I included it because it shows her body type, hair color, and tone. Certain colors pop on her and others she gets washed out. Photos 2-4 are of dresses from the show. That is what I am looking for.

I just seem to be running into an issue with my search phrasing. I keep searching for satin or flowy maxi or satin maxi. They just don’t seem to be a complete match. I decided to turn to this group to get some suggestions etc. What should my search phrase be/ what am I looking for? Any advice/guidance is greatly appreciated. I am also pretty far down the rabbit hole so if anyone thinks there is a different style that would be really nice for her I am totally open.
