What’s the point of reducing distal radius and ulna fractures?

I had a patient today with a distal radius and ulna fracture. Wasn’t terribly deformed. Was neurovascular intact. Decided to reduce however reduction was only minimally successful. Remained neurovascular intact. Didn’t look pretty on the post reduction. Talked to orthopedics and they said just splint the patient and refer him outpatient to their clinic. It was probably my worst reduction ever and that got me thinking, if orthopedics is OK with us sending these kind of fractures home despite poor reduction, what’s the point of reducing in the first place? This type of fracture would require surgery per the orthopedic.
