Hi reddit, I'm curious if you guys have ever got into a situation like this when buying something on OfferUp.
I was on OfferUp to buy an item, and when I offered the price the person agreed right away and wanted to meet up. They asked when we were coming to pick up the item, and I said "we are going to pick it up in a few hours." Then they asked "we?" I clarified that my husband was coming with me.
When the time came, I told them I was on the way, and asked if they could give me a phone number so I can call, or we can just meet at a specific spot. Because I didn't have internet on my phone (I'm out of data for this month) and was going to contact them on my husband's phone.
All of a sudden the person's wife messaged saying they were no longer interested in selling. I was so confused so I messaged back for clarification. Then I got flooded with messages cursing me out, threatening me, calling me names, scammer, etc.
I was so confused, and then I remembered when they asked "we?" They expected me to come alone, and maybe wanted to jump me and steal the money?
I'm not sure if this has ever happened to any of you. But please be careful out there. Especially ladies, please always go with someone if you're meeting up with someone from OfferUp.
