Tics without urge, and urge only after suppression?
I'm curious how many of you recognize this.
We're all very familiar with the description that tics are a response to a premonitory urge. But I often get the impression that many of my tics happen without any noticeable urge at all, and that I only really become aware of the urge when I try to suppress a tic, or when I consciously focus on it.
I think this mostly applies to simple tics? They feel so reflex-like most of the time that, whenever I do become aware and try to suppress, that's when I actually start to feel an urge to tic instead of it just happening.
