How do KS3 only teachers feel about not having GCSE?

I have my specialism subject and can teach a second subject. My school is introducing my second subject at KS4 in September. I wanted a group of my subject and then second subject. I also asked for this to be a small group due to it being the subject's debut and the amount of money they need to sink into it.

They've given me two groups of my second subject and none of my first. I have 48 students. We had to reject a further 30 students too.

It's going to be like this for the foreseeable future because my HOD can't teach the second subject.

I'm really deflated. I got into teaching for my first subject and that is really my bread and butter. I feel like I've been taken advantage of as no one has listened to me. I also asked for a cap of 20 students because it is a practical subject but they didn't expect over half the cohort to opt for it. I don't get a TLR for it and have to plan the whole curriculum from scratch. I didn't get asked about the class list.

My HOD has tried to comfort me by saying I can "make it like my first subject", but that's not how I run it. That doesn't set kids up with the skills to pursue this as a career. Also, some kids are taking both anyway.
