Hi hi!

I’m trying to remember the title of a book I read a few years back during my sen year of high school (it was for an international literature course).

I can remember is that it took place during the beginning of the communist revolution in China, following the life of a girl who was once part of the upper middle class. I think there was a mentions of her having to car Mao’s red book. A scene I remember was her mother making New Years traditional food, but only enough for the main character (I think the ingredients were stated to be a luxury).

Any help in the right direction would be wonderful!!!
