I get this isn't EVERYBODY who made this argument but it gets to a point
this video might contain the take of all time. I mean, no disrespect or hate to the guy who made this, but some of their points makes me question his media literacy skills or if they even watched bfdia. I would encourage you to go watch the video to make your own opinion as I'm only going to be covering the video through his different points and takes, NOT that I'm going to deliberately take him out of context, but still. (all quotes in the rest of the post are directly taken from the video's transcript, only edited if the words are wrong)
>Okay, so basically Needle's entire thing in post-revival BFDIA is quote on-quote winning for herself. A lot of people are trying to use this as their reasoning for why she should win, but I strongly disagree with this one. For one, Needle's characterization in pre-revival BFDA strongly contradicts his mindset. In fact, she seemed even more dependent on team dynamics, such as when Coiny forced her to switch to Woah Bunch.
This is something that they unfortunately do a lot in this video. They take Needle's current character and will use times before her arc and label her as inconsistent or hypocritical. To put this into perspective, this is like saying how Flower is nice at the end of BFB but she's inconsistent because she was mean in BFDI and BFDIA. It is stupid logical that makes it look like you didn't even watch the same show.
>Needle contradicts herself on several occasions when undergoing this [music] character arc and despite speaking out against it, continuously relies on her previous interactions with her old teammates to move forward.
This WOULD be a good point, if they gave any actual examples of this, but they don't and just move on. This is a common trope in bad of actively malicious reviews, the reviewer will say that [blank] is [blank] but don't give any examples of it and expect the viewer to take their word for it.
>Another thing that doesn't make sense with this character arc is Needle's friendship with Coiny and Pin. It's shown that she harbors some resentment towards Coiny, especially for him pushing the wo bunch team dynamic on her. However, she never actually confronts him and explains why she doesn't agree with being a woah buncher
On the one hand this is an somewhat decent point, but I still don't really agree with this/hold it against Needle, mainly because even though she never directly had a talk with Coiny about being a woah buncher. She has made it clear several times that she is no longer apart of their team and wants to be associated with them, and its Coiny who keeps trying to push this onto her even though she has made it clear that she doesn't want it, which is a bigger part of her character that I'll bring up latter.
>(continuation of the last quote) such as in BFDIA 17, where she teamed up with Fries out of seemingly nowhere.
This is just flat out wrong, now I know I may be looking into this too much, but I see this scene as needle making her for step of true self-care I would call it (there is probably a better word for it but I cant think of it). In this scene it is her choice to team up with Fries, not something that say Coiny or Pencil wanted her to do to see her as an equal. She even makes it clear later that episode that doesn't even like fries that much.
>She's been pretty inconsistent in her relationships with the other players as well. In BFDIA 20, she made it clear that she wanted Coiny out more than Pin, but literally in the previous episode, she was seen avoiding Pin with everyone else.
First off, Coiny is a major threat in the game, not only because he's is really good at challenges, but also because in all but three eliminations (excluding the one where he got out) he has been first safe. which means that Needle isn't very likely to survive against them. Second off, just because you are don't like someone doesn't mean it is good to get them eliminated, I mean, logically, keeping pin around while getting rid of either Coiny or TB would guarantee herself an safe spot if she and Pin were both put of for elimination. and Lastly, it was pretty obvious the cake at stake for 🥚was being played off as a joke.
>More evidence of this is shown in the episodes after BFDIA18. This is when she first decides to focus on winning for herself, but is literally seen forcing Tennis Ball into a deal two episodes later, even going as far as making a contract. That isn't a strategic move. That was desperation to be recovered.
I honestly Don't know what they were getting to, as forcing someone into a contract that makes them have to do whatever you say is a pretty strategic move on her part. But they just say that it wasn't and again, we are just supposed to take their word and assume they are right.
>Needle is usually portrayed as being kind, albeit [music] competitive at times, and very strong. She started out this way in post-revival BFDIA and was mostly consistent until in BFDIA 12 when she joined Freesmart. This episode kind of confused me when it comes to Needle's characterization. She had an established friendship with woah Bunch and was shown to be very loyal to them
In my opinion I wouldn't say that needle was that good friends with woah bunch or was really that loyal, it was more of that there wasn't any real incentive to switch teams as keep in mind they were the biggest team with 7 members, 8 if you count rocky. Another thing is that Needle didn't really have any strong friendships on that team, I would compare Needle's friendship with them with how you would say that Cake is friends with Bomby on Just Not, or how Fries is friends with eraser on free food.
>Needle's entire arc of winning for herself is based on her not working for anyone else and focusing on winning challenges to further her own interest in the game. This doesn't work if she's focused on proving herself to everyone else.
I don't she how proving herself to others goes against not trying to appease anyone. It is literally saying that "I don't need your approval to make it far into the game and feel good about myself!"
>She stated numerous times that her drive to win is basically showing that she's able to win. But this isn't her only issue. When Needle joined Freesmart in BFDIA 12, she was shown not to be a full Frees freesmarter and needed to commit an [music] active sacrifice to become one. She spent the entire episode willingly trying to get Pencil's [music] approval. That's not winning for yourself. That's being subservient to another contestant by trying so hard not to be.
Another example of taking moments before her character arc and using it as attacks against her current character. I mean how hard is it to understand that this is supposed to be BUILDUP to her character arc, from bfdia 12 to bfdia 17, needle is constantly working a Sisyphean climb for both Freesmart's and Woah Bunch's approval through "acts of sacrifice" to no avail, and by bfdia 17 she is sick of trying to appeal to people.
>She's also been shown to value others opinion on her way too much. Like when she joined both Freesmart and Wo Bunch in BFDIA 16 to try and appease both of her teams. Again, she wouldn't have cared if she was [music] focused on winning for herself. In the same episode, Needle also sacrificed herself to try and save Pencil, which indirectly caused Pencil's elimination in the next episode. She, for the millionth time, contradicts herself here.
Again, they take a moment from before her big revelation, and uses it to attack her. This episode is my eyes is where Needle realizes that trying to appease people just isn't going to work out, I mean she saves both Book's and Pencil's lives, and just because she made them lose, she gets shamed for it. To add salt to the wound, she nearly gets eliminated.
While I Don't know this channel or what types of videos they produce, it doesn't change the fact that this analysis of Needle as a character is poorly researched and has many gaping holes in its logical. A good chunk of the time they throw out a claim with no evidence and expect us to believe them, and when they do give evidence is often debunks the point they just made. I hope the creator of the video can use this as a learning experience, because as much as this is terrible slander of one of my favorite characters, I don't really hate them for making it, nor that they don't want Needle to win, just wish it was better made with better reasoning.
