Got my IUD today, haven't had a pelvic in 7 years. I have a hx of severe trauma so I was very anxious. The NP gave me 2 mg Ativan to take an hour before, I took about 1000 mg ibuprofen an hour before. My boyfriend came with me which was comforting. I was pretty loopy on the Ativan and very relaxed but I barely remember the pinch of the lidocaine for the cervical block. It felt like a very sharp pinch. She did my Pap smear afterwards which I didn't even notice. She tried to insert the IUD the first time and it didnt work the first time (I again barely remember this lol), but when she got the IUD in the second time, I felt a single sharp DEEP cramp that ended quickly. No tears, didn't feel faint, was mainly loopy from the Ativan and my boyfriend helped me get dressed and got me home. Just took 400 mg more of Ibuprofen, held a heating pad to my stomach for the rest of the day and felt tired but normal. I'm still spotting, which sucks but thats okay.
Anyways, I just wanted to share because I'd delayed getting it for so long because I was so scared and honestly, it wasn't bad at all! It's also possible I have a higher pain tolerance but I do think the lidocaine help with pain and the Ativan helped with anxiety.
