Moving to Nanaimo for VIU this fall - housing advice appreciated!
Hello everyone,
I’ll be moving from Vancouver to Nanaimo this August to begin my MBA at Vancouver Island University (VIU) this September, and I’m currently searching for AFFORDABLE accommodation.
I’m a Nigerian international student, male, quiet, responsible, clean, and easy to live with. I don’t smoke or party, and I’ll mostly be focused on school and work.
I’ve been searching through Facebook Marketplace, Craigslist, and Kijiji, but I haven’t had much luck getting responses so far. I would really appreciate any recommendations, referrals, leads, or advice from people familiar with the Nanaimo rental market.
I’m open to:
• A private room
• Shared accommodation
• Basement suite
• Student-friendly housing
Budget: $700–$900/month
Preferred move-in: August 2026
Preferred areas: Near VIU or anywhere accessible by transit.
I also have employment references available if needed.
