Sofa Repair - DIY!

Hey everyone! Looking for some advice from anyone who’s good with upholstery or sewing repairs.

During a recent move, movers accidentally cut into the arm of my upholstered chair (fabric + some light padding underneath). It’s not a huge tear, but it’s a clean slice through the fabric and slightly into the cushion area.

I’m trying to figure out if this is something that can realistically be sewn/hidden/repaired at home or if I need professional upholstery repair.

A few questions:

  • Can a clean cut like this be stitched back together without looking terrible?
  • Would fabric glue + stitching work, or is that a bad idea?
  • If it is fixable DIY, what tools/materials should I use?

I’m mostly trying to avoid replacing the whole chair if I can help it.

Appreciate any advice or experience anyone has with this 🙏
