Hi! So around a few weeks ago i got the itch to foster a dog and asked my mom so see if her rescue that she volunteers at had any available dogs. This is a German shepherd rescue and they had a German/Husky mix who was almost 7 years old that had been in boarding for a few months after her previous owner gave her up bc he traveled too much with his old job.
I feel guilty because I really had to make my case to my bf who I live with that this was a good idea. We live in an apartment with a cat. There’s a dog park in our apartment complex with a bunch of trails and stuff. So everything is arranged and a week ish later they transport the dog to my area and she’s a pretty big dog, very sweet. We were obviously not going to make the dog and cat meet that night and have her a little set up in the bathroom her first night, but she was freaking out so I got her a crate the next day and she settled down.
The cat right off the bat was absolutely terrified of the dog and his behind the air fryer all night. He started to move around slightly more the next couple days, but then my bf who doesn’t know squat about dogs was like let’s jus make em meet and held the cat up to the dog and the cat lost its shit and scratched the f out of my bf and ran off. The dog wasn’t interested in him before but now she is. It’s been a few days and I’ve had to rearrange where the cats stuff is because I checked his gums yesterday and they were super pale. I assume he didn’t want to go anywhere near the dog and was dehydrated. He looks better today but I feel so terrible for him. But I’m also going to want to die if I have to give her back to boarding. Any tips on anxious cat, how to get her adopted faster, or if I should rethink the setup? The cat now p much resides in the bedroom bathroom closet area while dog is in living room kitchen. I also have chinchillas that are in my bedroom and they were scared of the dog scent at first but they seemed back to normal after a couple of days.
