Hi r/BritGolf
I'm Harry, a final-year student at Newcastle University. My friend Raff and I are playing 72 holes of golf in a single day, starting at 4:45am, on 26th May at Close House, Newcastle, raising money for MANUP?, a men's mental health charity.
The reason we're doing it is personal. I struggled with anxiety and depression during my time at university, and eventually got to a point where I was able to access therapy, which made a real difference. But I'm acutely aware that not everyone gets there. For a lot of men, the stigma surrounding mental health means they never take that first step. Looking back, it took a series of small moments before I felt safe enough to open up at all, and I know how easily those moments might not have happened. This is our way of giving something back, trying to make sure more men get the support that genuinely changes things.
Men are significantly less likely to seek help for their mental health than women, yet face disproportionately higher risks as a result. MANUP? exists specifically to tackle that gap, and we wanted to raise money in a way that felt true to that, something active, something social, not a gala dinner or a sponsored walk.
We launched our JustGiving page two days ago and have already raised over £1,600 from more than 50 donors, which has genuinely blown us away.
If anyone would like to support us or find out more, feel free to DM me and I'll send the link over - or if you search up "Harry and Raff: Fore a Good Cause" on JustGiving - it should come up with a photo of us. We're genuinely grateful for any support at all!
Or the link is in the bio of our instagram account we made for the purpose of this challenge - 'foreagoodcause' ❤️
Even just an upvote or a share means a lot. Thank you for reading.
