Excerpt from a survivors journal

The large man from the old times came back to the settlement today. The elders say he was a hero before the Ruination, he used his special powers to stop bad people but couldn't stop the old nations from killing the world. He isn't always here, but when he is he always helps us. He helps us fix our buildings, he helps with gathering supplies, and he always fights the raiders for us.

Me and the other kids follow him around a lot. We've never seen him eat or sleep or even speak to anyone. He always wears that hood and mask, but I see his eyes. When he isn't working with the grownups he always has sad and angry eyes. I wonder what he thinks about all the time that makes him feel like that when he isn't helping us...
