Best Players of High Bounce in the IPL Since 2024

This is for batters who have faced a minimum 50 balls of high bounce.

High bounce is based on the coefficient of restitution or the COR.

COR is the ratio of the ball's vertical velocity after bouncing to before bouncing.

COR = v_z_after / v_z_before

With 0 being a dead stop and 1 being perfectly elastic.

Since kinetic energy in the vertical direction scales with v², bounce height relative to drop height is:

h_bounce / h_drop = COR²

0.65 is the 75th percentile for COR. So I am using that.

So with COR = 0.65: 0.65² ≈ 0.42, the ball bounces to ~42% of its drop height.

So these values are where the COR is greater than or equal to 0.65.

Batters in the Powerplay in the IPL since 2026

The triangles are colour coded based on the strike rate at that location, estimated using a kernel density approach across all deliveries in that zone.

The warmer the colours are the higher the strike rate in that zone is.

The LHB batters are mirrored to be RHBs.

So there's a zone just above and outside off where batters struggle to hit in the powerplay.

Just wanted to post this as there seems to be a myth that modern IPL batters get stuck more. Which is absolutely false. If anything they're getting better and better not playing dots. Especially in the PP and Middle overs. And Death overs haven't changed much.
