I miss when you could choose which subject to study and the aim of the platform was actually teaching people new languages instead of just trying to keep them engaged for longer and longer periods of time. Also I miss when lives were a thing and you could do as many lessons as you wanted as long as you got no wrong answers. Less annoying ads too!
It's no secret that the app went downhill, especially when they started using AI for everything, and I think the layout change was the moment that marked duolingo's goals changing, becoming more greedy with every update or new feature since.
