Tuesday: Intermediate Community/New Friend Mountain Bike Ride: Funner → Pondo → Funner

Are you warm and welcoming to all people of all genders, nationalities, immigration statuses, races, and sexualities?
Looking to make new friends/community in Bend with folks who also ride bikes?

Then join for a casual group mountain bike ride up Funner, over to Pondo, and back down Funner! Make new friends, enjoy some trails, and build community in Bend.

Heads up: this one is on **TUESDAY** (not the usual Wednesday).

It’s not a no-drop ride, but it’s not not a no-drop ride. We won’t be racing anyone, but we’re definitely looking to sweat a little.

🚵‍♀️ **THE DETAILS**
• When: Tuesday — arrive between 5:00–5:15 PM, ride departs at 5:30 PM SHARP
• Where: Green Gate (look for a white CRV) — https://maps.app.goo.gl/ufpGpHdRLKdAEXUu9
• Route: Funner up → Ponderosa → Funner down
• Distance: ~12 miles
• Elevation gain: ~1,300 ft
• Duration: Approximately 1.5–2 hours
• Skill level: Intermediate

🌲 **ABOUT THE TRAILS**
• Funner (up): fairly mellow climb with a few tricky sections
• Ponderosa: blue jump flow trail — speeds stay pretty low but the fun factor is huge
• Funner (down): mostly mellow again, with some techy black sections (plan on riding them, but they’re easy to roll around)

🚵‍♂️ **WHAT TO KNOW**
• This is NOT professionally organized — just a friendly community ride organized by a local rider
• I’m just a regular mountain biker passionate about building community and making connections in Bend
• All genders welcome — we focus on creating an inclusive, friendly atmosphere!
• All races welcome — diversity makes the US better and also makes rides better
• You must be welcoming and excited to ride with participants regardless of sexuality, gender, race, or background
• Intermediate MTB skills are a prerequisite
• Riders are responsible for their own safety and trail etiquette

🚵 **REQUIREMENTS**
• Mountain bike in good working condition
• Helmet (mandatory — you only get one brain and it doesn’t grow back)
• Water and any snacks you might need
• Ability to handle intermediate terrain and ~1,300 ft of climbing
• Previous mountain biking experience
• A friendly, inclusive attitude!

The goal here is to build community and friendships through mountain biking — see you on the trails! 🤙

Beginner Ride - Facebook Event
Intermediate Ride - Facebook Event

>(Both are Facebook events. I know not everyone has FB but I only have so much capacity to host rides/set things up so all coordination will be on there. I know it's not ideal, but honestly it's the easiest/free way to host events and most people have Facebook for Marketplace anyway)

Tuesday, May 5 at 5:30 PM sharp, we’re riding South Fork from Skyliners via Swede Ridge.

This is a true intermediate ride and a step up from the beginner rides. Expect about 13 miles, 1,542 ft of climbing, and a proper South Fork descent with roots, rocks, faster sections, and some tech.

Most of the climbing is up front. We’re not sprinting up the climb, but this is not a no-drop ride. We’ll keep it social, regroup at junctions, and make sure everyone knows where they’re going.

Trailforks route: COTA: Tumalo Creek + Swede + South Fork
Descent preview: South Fork trail video
Meet: Skyliners Trailhead, 5:15 PM
Roll out: 5:30 PM sharp
Bring: Helmet, water, snacks, bug spray, and your friendly inclusive attitude
After: Prost Brewing, 40 SW Century Dr. #140. Bring your bike onto the patio.

Wednesday, May 6 at 5:30 PM sharp, we’re riding a beginner community MTB ride at Phil’s.

This is a beginner-friendly ride and a good next step if you’re newer to mountain biking. We’ll ride Ben’s → Voodoo → Phil’s, which is a little more “real Bend singletrack” than Ticket to Ride, but still approachable if you have some basic trail experience.

No Drop means nobody gets left behind. No one will be riding alone on this ride

Trailforks route: Bens to phils
Distance: 9.4 miles
Climbing: 627 ft
Skill level: Beginner / advanced beginner
Meet: Phil’s Trailhead, 5:00–5:30 PM
Roll out: 5:30 PM sharp
Bring: Helmet, water, snacks, and your friendly inclusive attitude
After: Bring a chair and beverage of your choice if you’d like to hang out after the ride.

Are you a newer intermediate mountain biker who's warm and welcoming to all people of all genders, nationalities, immigration statuses, races, and sexualities?

Looking to make new friends and build community in Bend with folks who also ride bikes?

Then come join a casual group ride up Funner and down Tiddlywinks! Make new friends, sweat a little, enjoy some of Bend's best flow, and build community.

Heads up: this is a step up from our usual beginner ride. If you're comfortable climbing ~1,300 ft and have a few rides under your belt, you'll be fine as there's nothing technical you can't roll, and anything spicy is easy to walk around.

This is not a no-drop ride, but it's also not not a no-drop ride. We're not trying to be the fastest group on the trail, but we do want to sweat.

🚵‍♀️ THE DETAILS

  • When: Wednesday, April 29 — arrive 5:15 PM, ride departs 5:30 PM SHARP
  • Where: Green Gate trailhead off Cascade Lakes Hwy. Parking is limited, so park in the chain-up area and meet at the gate
  • Route: Funner (up) → Tiddlywinks (down) loop — Trailforks link
  • Distance: ~13 miles
  • Elevation gain: ~1,300 ft
  • Duration: Approximately 2–2.5 hours
  • Skill level: Newer intermediate (comfortable climbing, comfortable on flow trail with some rocks and small drops. All features are rollable or walkable)

🚵‍♂️ WHAT TO KNOW

  • This is NOT professionally organized — just a friendly community ride organized by a local rider
  • I'm just a regular mountain biker passionate about building community and making connections
  • All genders welcome. This ride will always be an inclusive, friendly atmosphere
  • All races welcome. Diversity makes the US better and also makes rides better
  • You must be welcoming and excited to ride with participants regardless of sexuality, gender, race, or immigration status
  • Riders are responsible for their own safety and trail etiquette

🚵 REQUIREMENTS

  • Mountain bike in good working condition
  • Helmet (mandatory — you only get one brain and it doesn't grow back)
  • Water and any snacks you might need
  • Comfortable climbing 1,300 ft over ~5 miles
  • Some previous mountain biking experience — this isn't your first ride or second. Maybe like your 10th or later.
  • A friendly, inclusive attitude!

🍺 POST-RIDE HANGOUT

We're hitting Prost Brewing down the street after the ride because Green Gate isn't the best/safest spot for a post-ride hang.

Bring your bike onto the Prost patio so you can keep an eye on it while we share laughs and beverages.

The goal here is to build community and friendships through mountain biking! See you on the trails!
