Your opinion on modern games with intentional affine texture warping?
Low-resolution textures and limited palettes force the designer toward cohesion.
Dithering and vertex lighting can add texture, mood, and shadow language.
Low-poly models require strong silhouette design.
Even aliasing has some visual utility when it helps with character/object separation.
But affine texture warping is the one PSX-era artifact I just don’t understand people intentionally bringing back. Unlike the others, it often feels uncontrolled rather than authored and it can create texture swimming, visible triangle seams, and broken material continuity, which to me hurts immersion more than it adds atmosphere.
Change my mind.
