To elaborate, does a DNV start when you receive the visa or are you given 90 days after the visa is issued?

I know when I applied for WHV for NZ I was given a year to enter the country before the visa expired, but not sure how it works for a DNV. To clarify, I'm not applying for a DNV in NZ, just using it as an example.

I know for Spain, youre given 90 days to enter on a DNV, but not sure for other countries. Someone correct me.if I am wrong or if I can get guidance.
