So I taught this level 12 on a D4 operation (I need rare samples for the final upgrades to the Prophet of Iron) and came across someone in basic armor, running a laser cannons (on a hot world) that did not seem to know how to use it very well, I would normally go off and hard carry the operation but decided not to, called down a supply backpack and a stalwart, and started following this new person around, they were playing the objectives (always a nice change of pace) but was using grenades to pop open containers at POI, told him to use the laser cannon for that, taught the basics of laser weapons (I am a Laser Cannon main when playing on non-bug fronts at most D levels), explained that running into green clouds that were coming out of my grenades is bad and to stim if they find themselves in it.

After that and an exterminate mission was a data retrieval and deletion mission, changed from the trident to the new SMG (one handed so I can use it with the HDD and I have not leveled it yet so why not), we drop in, call down out stuff, get some POIs and get close to the data HDD pickup point and can see nothing, I explain to the new player there are spore spewer towers doing it and proceed to climb up to the highest point I can find and tag it on the map, we take it down, I took all stratagems that a new player will have or soon get to show basic use of them, Eagle air strike, orbital Gatlin barrage, orbital AB barrage and a stalwart, worked great, I picked up the HDD after it was loaded with the data, I also explained that we must pick out fights while carrying the HDD and the most amazing thing I've seen in Helldivers 2 in months: they did not pick a fight with every patrol, base and guard we came across only most of them, truly inspiring, after we uploaded the data and wiped the local copy I let the new person lead, they mostly went to the extract with a few bases being left which is fine, then the bad started, I Eagle air striked the illegal broadcast completing the objective, this confused the new person and they spent 3 minutes pulling every patrol in the area as the searched for the illegal broadcast objective that no longer exists, we did a fighting retreat to the extract which was less then 100 meters away, I got up on a rock while burning all my stratagem cooldowns, only to die to...not actually sure as the game gave no indication of what killed me from full HP in medium armor, we got overrun twice but kept the extract timer going down until it arrived I throw 1 last Orbital AB barrage at a bug breach that was at a somewhat safe distance and took a look around, aside from that bug breach we were clear, I got on Pelican 1 and...10+ bugs move past pelican 1 to engage the new person, he got on with 3 seconds to spare

What else should teach new people aside from weapon mechanics, basic tactics for engagements, avoiding fights when necessary, how not to die to the gas and stratagems of others, and how to do objectives? Or should I just hard carry next time?
